Airy Buds. No Substance To Em!

so i baught a 300 watt cfl. so i dont think lights are the problem, but my last harvest i found my buds to be small and real airy. so i was gonna try changing my soil from vegetable grow bags to coco and still if that doesn't work i was going to change my water from 400 ppm ( hard water (b4 nutes)) to 0 ppm radiator fluid. as it has a ppm of 4 ... or 0... i think there was something on my ppm tester ... its about 2 quid a L. my humidity is also too low. and my tempreture is marginally too high. could anyone tell me what would have the most detrimental effect to my end product. thanks.

molasses helps densen the nugs up a little bit just put 1 tablespoon per gallon of water and maybe buy some better nutes

Try a new strain. Also your 300cfl does not even come close to a 300hps for flowering.

My guess is you what you REALLY have is a 65W CFL that puts out the equivilent light of what 300W of incandescent light bulbs would put out. Which, as you've recently found out, isn't nearly enough light to have good results.

And a 65W CFL ain't enough light! And that's why you have airy buds.

Get some more light, 2-3 more of those would make a world of difference. And you need to keep CFL's like right up on the plant -- as close as possible without burning leaves.

I had the same problem with cfl's. I had 11 100w that put out 300w of incadecent and still had no density to my shit I did 5 grows in that box all with the same result. NOw I use the good ol' sun

many moons ago i grew with CFL..i found 250(real watts) watts was giving me decent nugs ....no matter how many you use tho yur not going to have fat dense buds like a HPS lamp will give, so if yur looking for those type of buds yur not gonna get em with CFL....but you will have some real good quality buds, they jus lack yield.

WBD is right about the light. Light airy buds are the result of one thing and one thing only, not enough light! Also, molasses does not give you denser buds. I could explain why but the science of it bores most people. Rhys, you need more light. If you grow in soil, molasses will feed the microbes that live in the soil but be careful, too much can cause a feeding frenzy and they will use up the oxygen in the soil, creating anerobic conditions in which your roots will suffer, undoing the good work of the molasses. A better plan for your roots would be to use something like trachaderma or mychorise or better still, both!! They are not expensive and will have very good effects on your plants. W

I would get a couple more of those lights. with CFL lights you don't want to just put the light above the plant, you want to put a few of them all around the plant because of the poor light penetration and the fact that CFL light drops dramatically with distance. I use t8's as my above light and hang at least 1 48w bulb between each plant and my nugs aren't super dense but they aren't really airy either. the more CFL bulbs you can hang around the plant to get more even light coverage the better of a harvest you will get.

it might just be that that strain produces light and airy flowers.or it might be the temps are too high,or lights not good enough.

not everyone can afford or have access to HPS ballast or lights. not to mention the rise in your electric bill.
Actually, the upkeep doesn't cost much at all...A 250watt light will only cost about $20 a month in electricity. And that's here on Guam, where gas prices are $4.65/gal

If you want loads of big, chunky, hard buds, you're gonna need to upgrade from the CFLs. I think the biggest actual wattage CFL you can get is 250w, so the 300w is probaby an equiv.
