well said spooky. IMO three 300-400w units will replace a 1000w hid no problem. I used to run 2 400w hps units and was able to replace/upgrade my total growing area by getting 2 180w units and 1 250w unit. Just make sure to do your reseach and buy from a company that offers a warranty.
CFL all the way - seriously? The lumenescence fades super quick and you'll spend an eternity moving the lights around to keep optimum coverage on your ladies. Have you every tried HID or legitimate LED grow lights? I'm not saying one (HID OR LED) is better than the other, depends on the specific needs of your garden but I'd wager that almost everyone who's tried at least a 400w HID or at least a well made 180w LED would tell you that either blows the hell out of CFLS. Just my opinion from starting using a lot of 105w cfls, then switching to HID, then going to LED. For me LED kicks ass in the summer cause its hot as fuck in the dirty south and I was having a very hard time growing with HID during summer months.
