URINE to lower ph???

Ok so I know this sounds crazy but I recently met a an old hippie farmer. Seen some of his plants and there were looking pretty nice( indoor). I asked how he managed to lower his PH levels and he told me he would take about 1 ounce of urine and dilute it to a litre of water. He also told me urine contains (N) which would be good for growth. We all use animal based fertilizers so his theroy seem pretty logical to me. can anyone else say they used or herd of someone using this method? Or has he just smoke one too many bowls by the time I seen him?

it would work in both lowering ph and fert. might give you some excess salts tho.

edit: im joggin back to the bio in my brain, think urine is supposed to come out neutral but depends on the individual- meat eaters are acidic and vegis make you basic.

any idea how you would deal with salt if you were growin like this. From seeing the plants the guy had, made me convinced to try one with his method.

ide say if your buddy is having success and has been growing for a while, give it a shot. i use water not pee so my stance comes strictly from a non pee user. ive herd of people doing it, just the majority of people use water and organic/sythetic nutes. maybe do half the plants and do a side by side comparison.

yea thats a good idea. I was going to start 2 kaia kush and give one urine and the other none. The only thing I am concerned with using urine is the fact that theres already nitrogen inside the pee. and if i were to add and nuets it might be too strong and burn my plants. I guess the only way to know is to try.
If Garth (the hippie) wasnt a friends friend ide pop over and ask but dont wanna be too intrusive

well next time you pee on plants try DILUTING it- we established it woulndt be straight urine. a shot glass of pee in a liter of water is a lot diff then straight peeing on plants.

I see what your saying. I have a pissing destination in my friends backyard and i nearly killed one of his ceders. BUTT i think it may be the fact that i pee directly on it rather then mix it with water and other shit before watering. I think it is just the pee was too strong and diluted. If u use too much animal fert same results will happen, but if its diluted it works wonders. Thanks for the input tho i appreciate all i can get

It might be the pure concentration that killed those plants. I've heard using Urine, you'd want to go about 1/10 ratio of urine to water. You guys dumping liters in the same area probably had the same effect as over fertilizing an area, which any off-the-shelf nute will do if you use too much of it as well.

Also, when using urine, it's my understanding you want to let it stand open for 24 hours prior to use, to give the heavy concentration of ammonia a chance to evaporate. Directly peeing on an area doesn't allow this to happen either.

it was pretty well diluted as I drink a shit load of beer i imagine i was pissing mostly water.I think its the salts.if you wanna piss in your plants then do it.hell piss on the love seat maybe it will grow into a sofa!

I'd imagine this was longer than just one night. of course you killed everything .... it was prolly a group of you straight pissing on moms rose bush .... before i knew anything about growing, when i was a teen, i would piss in the same spot in my yard everyday, on a rosebush. Killed that muthafucka. unintentionally of course but, I'm just imagining a house of partying beer drinkers pissing on the same plants for the whole season.;...... at least you don't have to worry about mowing that part of the lawn.

I just dont see the point in it.and its nasty.I prefer to use good old gh nutres and im stickn with it lol. actually it was my friends house so it didnt keep me from mowing my whole yard

I was wondering about the ammonia issues. good idea man ill go that when the trial begins

as for johnman. half of all the foods you eat are grown with animal shit and piss....if they are grown obviousily.

I know its nasty when you think about it. but its how nature works. go eat a apple out of someones yard that doesnt care for the plant then go to a orchard where they use all kinds of shit and piss. u can def see the difference

lots of people have herd the rumor to piss on your plants, the above is an excerpt from cheech and chongs nice dreams.
piss as stated above generally has a ph of 7 depending on the person, so in soil it is logical to assume that you can control ph levels by adding urine.

personally i wouldnt. for the only reason that whatever you put into your plants you inevitably end up smoking, animal byproduct based fertilizers are from mainly grazing animals, their waste contains vegitation that has been partially broke down and digested. there is a huge difference between grazing animal by product and human waste.

its probably not a good idea for you to undertake this method as well, as your old hippie freind is the only person i have heard of who successfully grows using piss as a ph buffer. he obvioulsy has years of experience with piss for ph, and you could easily mess it up and kill your plants.

i think you should just buy a good ph adjustment kit, and not worry about it.

get store bought nutrients, you can get the ph kit for around 20$ (USD) and you can run an entire flower cycle using only Dyna-Gro's Liquid Bloom and that will cost you like $18 (USD)

if your pissing on your plants your grow room is going to smell like an assisted living facility for the elderly (or a cat litter box)!!!
plus you will be seriously hindering the potential of your plants. granted urine is sterile and contains N.. but it also contains several elements that effect plants in a negative manner.

people have been known to hydrate themselves with their own urine in Extreme survival situations, its not a practice that is done often because obviously Water is better for us!
and i have a hunch that plants feel the same way
