What age would you want your son to be before smoking weed?

I ask because my dad was ok with me smoking(im 18 and have a medical card) because it gets rid of my anxiety, depression, insomnia, and chronic pain from past injuries. But the key word is he WAS ok with it. My dad and I have the same doctor, and my dad asked him about my marijuana usage. The doctor told him if I had been a few years older it would be no problem, but since im only 18 marijuana will affect my brain development considering the brain isnt FULLY developed until your 21-22. Now my dad wants me to get on anti depressants because they are "safer." The thing is I dont wanna be on anti depressants. I dont want to substitute a drug/chemical which is more dangerous. I dont see how my weed is bad for brain development but their pharmaceutical junk is ok. Everybody knows how bad anti depressants are for you. The side effects and the actual physical withdrawals from them. Not to mention that they take about 4 weeks to kick in and not every anti depressants work for everyone. Plus for young adults there is an increased thoughts of suicide?

So I guess I have 2 questions, what age would you be totally ok with your son smoking, and do you really think marijuana will have a noticable or significant "brain damage" since im only 18?
So far there is no proof of brain damage. Far as developing brains (I'm thinking babies and pre-pubescent age) I wouldn't, better safe than sorry. At any rate, kind of a moot point in your case, you are 18 and can make your own decision on whether or not you want to smoke or use anti depressants

That is what I meant affecting brain development not damage. Yeah in the end its still my choice. I just want my dad on the same page as me though.

i started when i was 15 it wasnt every day either i dont think you really can smoke every day until your 18 or so and dont gotta worry about school
Edibles at 14. Smoking at 16/17. Every single day, break and lunch.

My dealer turns up within 5 minutes outside school. I smoke on the school soccer field. I walk back into school and work.

I got Distinction Distinction Merit for my Diploma. The Merit happened when I was in hospital.

Weed was the only thing that actually kept me focused, made me eat and controlled my violent mood swings/ bouts of depression.

Like last night for instance. 2 weeks sober. I was like that (an inch away from suicide) 24/7 before I discovered pot. If I hadn't started smoking the ana would have killed me already.

wtf, you do realize that you are not fully developed as a male until around 30? Right? 21-22 yeah 21 year olds are really fully mentally developed sure,

ideally 18.

almost everybody i know started smoking around 15-16, and some of my friends are engineers at really huge companies.... others doctors, lawyers.... then some of them are flippin burgers n serving tables...

point is it wasn't the weed. that doctor doesn't know shit b/c there haven't been studies that prove marijuana hinders brain development.

there's only been a single modern study on human marijuana consumption and it proved it may increase instances of mental issues such as dementia, depression etc. not much was said about the phisiology of the brain itself. i'd get another doctor who bases his claims on scientific, medically supported evidence.

not on supposition and on what packets of propaganda given out by big pharma....

Just from reading the OP i was going to say 17/18...... medically your brain isn't fully developed until your 25.... however with our worlds society, most kids are getting into the mind altering substances around 15-16.

If your a kid these days, I doubt you will be able to turn down every mind altering substance until your 25. Some people are out of college and settling down by then.

I mean I would rate cannabis as the least harmless. I think caffiene is just as bad, if not worse. And anti depressants? Talk about messing with your brain chemistry! Anti Depressants 'control' the flow of dopamine in your brain... they 'regulate' it....

Two GREAT answers. If I can get any more like these two I would really appreciate it. :D

I started smoking when I was 14... I'm 32 and smarter than most doctors I've seen... I guess I'm kind of a doctor, I practice growing... hahaha, just smoke bro, anti-depressants will make you slit your wrists!

didn't read whole thread, sorry if this has been mentioned. But I recently read where binge drinkers were tested for brain damage. Those who smoked weed had less damage to their white brain areas...not sure what that means, but it tells me that it def aint causing damage...

i looked it up for the effect on developing brains, and to be honest there are so many words that i cant understand, but from my understanding, the only problem is that with heavy use of it, basically children would end up learning things differently and the 'impairment' of it would cause the child to just comprehend things differently, and things like that.

also, from a study: teens demonstrated lower activity in right dorsolateral prefrontal (something to do with memory) and occipital cortices(something with vision), yet significantly more activation in right posterior parietal cortex (has to do with movement, and being able to make your hand [for example] able to go exactly where you want it)

so it does lower activity in a couple areas, but also raises activity in other areas..maybe some sort of balance?

Legal age of an adult, 18.
Can I stop getting ignorant answers like this. Yes I'm 18 I make my own choices and I will continue to smoke pot because I know the truths about it. But I'm just trying to get more insight so I can show actual testimonials from people so I can possibly show my dad this thread. My dad who only wants the best for me. Even though what he think is best for me actually isn't whats best. I'm sorry for having respect for my dad and not wanting him to worry about his son making wrong choices even when its actually the right choice.
