Making BHO on a lazy tuesday night

just got some new supplies. All I'm waiting on now is the new extractor and butane. Before I was using a steel tube and coffee filters.The new one is from www.extractionexperts.com Should get here next week.Does anybody know what stores carry Vector in CAlifornia? I gave up looking and just ordered some over the internet.

Verde. Will I need a special attachemnt for one of those foodsaver canisters? I have attachements that came with my mighty vac but I'm not sure if one of them will fit. What do you think?

i'm in the uk and trying to keep the costs down, mighty vac seems to be US only the jars are almost as pricey as the mighty vac. are there any other brand of jars you can recommend? ive been on ebay and such but can only find like a 3$ jar thats 23$ shipping lol. maybe i should adapt something ive already got or can get easy. pyrex jars with holes in are hard to find!

Ok this settles it for me! I'm close to harvest and was wanting to make some extra goodies...looks like I'm going with BHO. Hey, Verde I saw a guy using copper tubing (taped paper towel around middle) to make his BHO. Is this a similar method that you use? I've got a pretty good idea what to do. I just used some 91% iso to clean grinder. Got a fat bowl off the teeth and stuff. I know butane doesn't break plant down, so when I make my honey I will use that. GREAT JOB... I'm wishing I knew your address! HAHAHA

Im right there with you verde....If i had a choice of only smoking one thing for the rest of eternity....It would def be my BhO....I only started making it about 6 months ago, and havent looked back since....its kinda wierd saying this, but when i smoke herb, i feel its almost dirty, in a way..lol...dont get me wrong, ill love smoking herb to the day i die, its just atm im on my oil kick...heres some budder and bho from my last run...and the new faded oil pipe...keep your torch screemin homey....

It works good. They sell a little cheaper on Ebay with free shipping. I paid 45$ for mine. Fits an ounce and came with an extra screen. The screen is the key. Mine has already paid for itself. I sold 2 grams for 40$. If you grow, then buy one its worth it. But if you buy shake and bud trimmings to make BHO, then its not really worth the money. I've just had all these leaves piling up for a year now, and have been meaning to put them to good use. So ya, I guess it all depends on your personal situation.

i have the exact same tube and have no complaints what so ever. quick question. do you reckon you could get the tube from the mighty vac in the butane hole for the tube?

yea cool... I'm a couple weeks from first harvest with veg and clones waiting their turn in the closet I will be getting one of these. I'm like straight jonesin' for some oil!!

Hey, yeah it is a little investment.

The mighty vac in the us is around $40US.... the gauge is important because the butane REALLY comes out betweeen 21-25.. and you want to pump up to this point for a few minutes at a time... so yes gauge is important to figure out what the pressure is at. It can take some vigorous pumping, you'd be suprised.

As far as the jars, yes they are pricey but useful... I bought 2 boxes of the three pack just to have more because I liked them so much..

However, you could most probably get away with using a decent mason jar, and poking a small hole at the top of the lid. Then by using the suction cup attachment you can suck air out of the food saver.

I just like food saver containers, and have lots around.. Which is why I use them... also I like plastic because its safer to bang around.


oils an investment; you have your tube, your screens, your butane your herb... and then the first few runs are always *more expensive* because you don't have your own technique down, and your not yielding the same as you will 10 runs from now.

To be honest - Good BHO is all practice makes perfect... And you gotta spend the money on the tane, and the herb each time in order to gain better knowledge on your own technique.

Looks like some good oil to me, looks like u got a good vac purge too. Some of that equipment is so familiar


So hey just some tips now that you've ran your first batch.....When your vac purging, try filling up a bowl with hot hot tap water...... then (this can require assistance) keep the foodsaver in the water by just holding it in place while you pump.... This just keeps the oil very nice and warm/molten, which assists in the purging process.


Also, how you pack your tube is important. Make sure it's consistent. You don't want it tighter toward the bottom, and loose toward the top. Or vice versa. You want it all packed evenly, and consistent as possible. This promotes good flow of butane through your herbs and results in more yield and better product.

I'm sure you will figure out the pack after some more runs. It really takes you doing it a little different each time and watching the butane flow each time to know what works BEST.

I'm in love with their screens, and their lab grade rubber stoppers. All in all it's a great package, pays for itself, will last forever.. holds a little more than an OZ.... i'm going to buy an additional tube so I can pack 2 tubes and just sit in front of my pan and spray.... when i ran 2+ oz before I had to repack it quickly... then the oil would get runny or loose some super nice oil qualities... I found that spraying straight to the pan and purging asap immediately after makes your oil harder and more of a taffy. More stable to work with and less runny.

thanks verde, feeling blazed and schooled this morning! thanks for the tips man i'd realised i was cheaping out at the last minute. I'll get a gauge pump and just adapt a mason jar for the first run.

was going to pick your brain about the herb going into the tube. obviously bud will yield more than trim, but to what degree do you grind up the nugs? just once through the grinder? is it best at smoking dryness or bone dry or can you just set about using wet trim?

do you guys prefer to mix strains or keep it to just one, just out of interest? i've only mixed but was thinking ill do a few separate strains.

sorry for all the questions but i want to get good fast. good butane costs a fortune in the uk

I had a lotttt when i started.


yes bud will yield more than trim just because of the sheer amount of trichomes on the bud.... the frostier the trim , the better the oil... I wouldn't be using fan leaves, just cola trim..


i dry and cure my product before running it to oil, including trim... but i'm kind of lazy... I would dry it to bone dry so it can suck up the butane better and the trichomes would be more brittle...

it's all about the trichs by nature of THC-V breaking down, after 3 weeks cure your product is more potent by mass of THC. So you might have stronger oil after 3 weeks? IDK this would need scientific testing, but i'm patent as it is so I always wait..


as far as strain mixing, yes I do this a LOT... I find I prefer the single strain oils though.....

Have you ever mixed sodas? Like orange soda, sprite, and mountain dew... thinking you will have a super soda, but you find you just taste all of them together and lack the CRISP clear satisfaction of a single soda? Same thing with oil.... You taste all flavors together, and it's good dont get me wrong.. from my experience i just find it gets less interesting faster, and It gets slighttttly runnier.. ever so.

That being said, I collect shake and just mix them together, because I hardly have 28-56g of shake that is all from the same strain.... then run them in one tube....

But the days I have ONE fire strain to run into ONE batch of oil are the best... and I find this to be the best quality of oil, best color/texture and consistency.


How much does tane run in the UK? I'm paying $50 a case plus tax.. so $US 54.90 something for 12x 11oz cans.

I think Colibri is the best brand out there? you want like 5x filtered butane..... you can test your butane by getting pliers and getting a CLEAN mirror wet with the butane.... once the butane evaporates there should be NOTHING left on the mirror. It should be squeaky clean. If that happens you have GOOD clean butane... if there is residue on the mirror you DON'T want that butane, as the residue will be in your oil

thanks man! so after some time digging i found a uk equivalent to the mighty vac and a decent priced supplier for colibri its going to be about £40 ish for a case 6 x 12 which isnt too bad. but i'm looking into bigger cans that you would fill appliances with, like cooks blow torches etc.

good analogy with the mixing of soda's man.

I'd heard of the mirror test, sucked buying loads of different brands before finding a 'good' one.

next time your doing a run would you mind taking some snaps of the tube prior to the tane, just want to see how how much n how ground your trim and shake is! thanks for all the tips man

Hey did the oil taste a little fruity? Hey man just to kinda recap ... So scrape up the oil out of the pyrex, from here I can put it in a glass dish, warm it up, vac for 10-15 min @ 20-25 pressure, at least 4 times? Then it will be straight? I gotta buy an attachment for my bong... Man I got like 2 weeks to harvest!(I HOPE!!) CAN'T WAIT!!

OH! Can you run tane over raw wet weed (cut up of course) or does it need to be dried like regular smoke? I wanna build up ounces of BHO and then just smoke weed every now and then.
