I don't think medication can help that kind of diet. Wow. I haven't had fast food since 92. I hate that shit.
You'd be surprised how many people are out there on insulin/lisinopril/statins who continue to eat unhealthily. I know a few personally that I've tried to get to eat right and exercise....to no avail.

Hell, I remember watching Anthony Bourdain openly admit on his show, "No Reservations", that his doc told him he had high cholesterol. His doc gave him a choice....either cut out eating pork (amongst other foods) or go on medication. He proudly proclaimed he opted for the meds. I would not be surprised if that guy "kicks" within the next 10 years.

you can deep fry a carrot. ;)

just sell your food stamps for cash and go to mc donalds.

you can't control people. it just doesn't work.
really? a carrot?

i may have to try that. i have a couple carrots left growing and they are about ready.

i see what you're saying, but i still think we can make it tougher for people to abuse food stamps. i was at the grocery store a few days ago, the people in front of me were buying starburst and mountain dew and paying with food stamps. they didn't have enough to cover it left on their card, so they also used some cash.

they walked out and me and the cashier both looked at each other with a dumbfounded look. i said "i hope those starburst last them until the end of the month"

there is no way you will ever change their diet. you are simply limiting people's rights if you put restrictions on them.

you're right, for some people you simply can't change their diet. but not every one abuses food stamps, i'm sure some buy junk just because there is nothing saying they can't.

and i don't see it as limiting anyone's rights. i don't view food stamps as a 'right'.

not really trying to argue with your point, i just think limiting food stamps to staple items would help many people.

i agree with the argument on the other side as well. at least some of it. :)

food stamps aren't a right, but once you are given them i don't think it's right to try to control what people use them for, as long as it's "food". everyone has the "right" to eat whatever they chose to eat. that's all i'm saying.

Won't stop them trying. The federal government won't let you eat cannabis. But as you argument states, look how effective they are at stopping it.

saying no to fast food would almost be an admission that they couldn't class it as food :p they don't want people eating healthy, the authorities grant planning permission for an outlet on every corner for a reason.

But what if the lobster option was cheaper than the burger option? So maybe the limit should be how much grub for ya buck/stamp you get and not what the item is. You get cheap lobster just as you get cheap tuna, hell, i used to sell tuna for £30 a kilo yet could pick up a kilo of lobster meat for £20.
