Myth Buster in Action

hey jaw i think you are right i noticed that it holds in moisture alot longer then my other plants meaning pot is heavy so it turns out that i only water like 1 cup of water in there
i think growers useing MG run into this problem by over watering period this releasing more nutrients personally theres no need to soak your medium on any grow ad like a cup every 3 - 4 th day even if medium looks dry but also bottom feed your plants by adding like a 1/2 cup in your drip tray

^Agreed, and personally, I won't use it without adding perlite first. Other than that, I think it's an excellent soil. Oh yeah,...I should mention that myself, and others, have had problems with it containing fungus gnats, which are a bit of a pain in the ass.lol But, ever since I started buying mine from a place that stores their soil indoors, i haven't had a problem with pests. I used to buy it at the local Walmart, which let theirs sit outside in the rain and weather, the dumbasses.

Here's the link to the test, if ya wanna check it out..... https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/373397-test-progress-miracle-grow-soil.html Also, I was mistaken, I stated that the test was against Ocean Forest, when in fact, it was against an Ocean Forest/Happy Frog 50/50 mix.

A friend of mine uses the MG organic soil sine he works at Lowes and gets a discount on it....Well I looked at his plants this year and they are great looking...

All he did was mix some guano and bloodmeal with it and water with Teas...

LOL..I use FFOF and Pro mix and got fungus gnats he never had a one...also both are outdoor grows....

looking at his plants I would use it and save money....

i still think useing organic Mg can get pricey

I never used MG but here all the bad rep on it so i decided to just try it out of the bag no additives just soil and water it says 6 months of food so hopeing to do veg and flower with only water

^Warning.....that "UP TO 6 months" means that it can keep a slow growing plant like grandmas cactus, lol happy for UP TO 6 months, not a nutrient hungry plant like cannabis. You will have to feed them, unless you use really big pots, and keep the plants small.

a picture of one plant in MG top view lol theres about 6 plants overall that are slow growers not sure why but like any strain theres always a few of them

good morning doc, you ripped through them clones quick.. i have a couple outdoor plants that got the miracle grow potting soil in the 2.5 cubic foot bag, with 6 month feed.. for 9$...both are doing great..they got nothing but rain and pond water no nutes..i am pretty impressed with the results.

Not really a myth busted here, typically when folks say "MG SUCKS" they are talking about this stuff:

miracle-gro-265x300.jpg

This is the shit that will fry your plants when the taproot pokes into one of those time release balls... that ain't no myth.

so wbd you had bad luck with that potting mix ?????
i noticed most soils that contain slow releasing nutrients aren't over that high in a sense bare essentials
i think don;t quote me on this if a person waters less and with less amounts it might work better
i think most ppl come to believe that flooding your medium is the way to water
IMO i think its totaly wrong . its proven that root systems effect yields so creating a mass rooting system will only bring you better yields how i do this is only adding like a cup of water on top and also bottom feeding plants forcing roots to search for water

Well, first off you can burn plants in expensive non-MG soils too. I burn shit in Fox Farm Ocean Forest all the time, other people do too.

But with the MG "feeds over 3 month" soils and any other products like that, the soil contains these little pellets that, with water, dissolve over time like a gelcap pill in your stomach. However, I doubt MG puts so much care into the accuracy of release and dosage like the pill makers do, but that's neither here nor there. The point is, you have no control over when those pellets burst, how many of them burst at the same time, etc. Will the soil work? Yes. Will it kill your plants? It's definitely possible. Likely? People say different things, for my time and grow space I'm not really inclined to find out for myself.

Maximum yield is about total control. That is the game for many people here.

I realize there are others whose game involves spending as little money as possible.

To answer your question, yes I have burned plants in MG soil. I don't think I ever killed anything but I have grown with MG's bloom food in the past too, the crystals in the box kind, and I definitely have better results with other products, both in terms of yield and quality. It's an inferior product, but sure I guess it can work.

I agree with you, the time release pellets will release quicker the more water they come in contact with; heavy watering early on is a recipe for burning and possibly killing a young plant growing in the MG. And I do like you, I make those roots search for water and try to delay until the last possible moment. :)

im curious im goin to buy some of that stuff and run water threw it to actually see how much ppm you actually get i will soak the entire bag in water and test daily as for the time relased ferts giving them a chance to release i am very curious to see after 1 week of stirring soil in water what my total ppm will come 2

normally i grow once clones have roots i litterally give them 700 ppm + and second watering they get 1000 ppm my clones take off just like the ones in this thread my next feeding on tuesday will be 1200 ppm i only planted 4 plants in Mg for this test and only feeding them 7.0 water no food

first plant i grew was in MG nute ball soil. bag seed. grew with out any problems. required little nutrients. flushed a week before i pulled. smooth sativa smoke with a hint of cinamin. all my friends rave about it. my one plant produced six ounces with cfl lighting. I switched to fox farms ocean forest for the grow im doing now and im running into problems I cant figure out. FFOF is also giving my original sativa bagseed clones real bad Nitrogen claw during flowering and my yield is severely stunted. I will probably be switching back to MG but i will try the organic this time.

That'll be an interesting experiment, I'd like to see how it turns out. It'd also be cool to pick out a bunch of those little fert balls, and mix them directly into water, break them open, check the PPM, and see how potent they really are. Hmm.....
