It's funny how quickly attitudes and opinions can change regarding this topic when it affects you or one of your loved ones. I have a very good friend who is alive today thanks to an organ donor. My niece was killed in a car accident years ago and thanks to her donor card 3 people are alive today.
As someone who is on a waiting list, I would like to personally thank everyone who is willing to save a life when theirs is taken.

Can I ask you a personal, somewhat tacky question? Would you buy the organ you needed if you had the money to do it? There is a black market for that kind of procedure.

i'm an organ donor technically but the funny part is they wouldn't touch my organs with a ten foot pole. i'm a 28 year old fatass who has smoked since junior high and who eats a horrible diet. they'll skip right over my organs. i say they should take my organs and put them in some fatass or alkie that would normally not qualify to recieve donated parts. if there are people who are too "sick" to recieve, and others who are too "sick" to donate, why not match them up instead of letting everyone rot? why discard the organs altogether? if i'm a drunk i'd be happy to get some obese person's liver rather than nothing, wouldn't i?

I would buy an organ..... if the work was done in a reputable facility.

excellent point...which brings me to an idea...if a weed smoker who accidentally dies were to be in otherwise perfect health...would they reject his donation?
couldn't they donate to another weed smoker? i would gladly accept a smokers liver. weed not cigs...that's just nasty

I believe that even though you have abused your organs, they could give life to another.
Corneal transplants are something that donors often do not think of. An amazing gift for a blind person.....can you imagine ???

I highly doubt they would refuse it. I know I wouldn't.
Lungs though???....maybe a problem
These transplants can happen so quickly that they may not know much about the donor

I think it would be selfish to not share something i no longer need. I've made it a point to inform people close to me that I DEMAND they salvage me for as many uselful parts as they need, having lost my father at 9 due to heart failure i don't think organ donation is even a question. I only request my body be buried next to my fathers.

i always wonder if hospitals are less vigilant to save someone with a donor card? especially if they are hurt badly. even if there is a chance they could fully recover.

i personally want to do a DNR. if i am dead, leave me dead & take my organs if they are useful but i am on medication that puts me susceptible to cancers & i wouldn't want my organs if i were a healthy person.

no, doctors are legaly demanded to do everything in there power to keep you alive even if you have a donor card. especially if theres a chance you would fully recover they would do everything to keep you alive. they cant take organs from you untill your completely brain dead .
