So i got a little bored and read some of the forums about lighting and i noticed that everyone is talking about either t5's or t8's and how they are good for plants. Sometimes even better than hps? if this is true i believe because these bulbs are expensive as hell. Either this store sells them expensive or am i looking at the wrong this

http://www.menards.com/main/lighting-fans/light-bulbs/fluorescent/28-watt-t5-pentron-6500k-case-only/p-1521710-c-7478.htm

This store is 30min away and all i have now is x2 400w cfls and a x1 200watt cfl. I am almost done with flowering and need something cheap and effective to penetrate my ladies 8)
So help me out RIU are t-bulbs worth it? or whats a more effective cheaper solution to flowering?

Not much to respond to.

T-5 for vegging. HID for flowering. You could flower with T-5 (red bulbs) but there won't be much bud.

Actually that would be HPS for flowering, not HID. Both metal halide and high pressure sodium are HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights. Metal halide for the vegetative stage of growth and high pressure sodium for the flowering stage.

For $185.00 less than the weak fluorescent light you could have a Lumatek 1000-watt digital ballast grow light that would burn both a metal halide bulb for vegging and a high pressure sodium bulb for flowering.

For $381.00 less than the weak fluorescent light you could have a Lumatek 600-watt digital ballast grow light that would burn both a metal halide bulb for vegging and a high pressure sodium bulb for flowering.

Fluorescent grow lights are a developing technology. They may have a big future if they aren't eclipsed by the LEDs. As things stand today, you have to work hard to get a yield from fluoros that compares with HIDs HPS or MH. A few growers manage it but most seem to struggle to get even half the yield a comparable HPS lamp would give. As BrickTop says, if you think it through, you will not save any money either. They are nice for vegg. I use CFLs for vegging because they are so convenient. I have plants at all different stages and I can have a different lamp for each one.

If you are into making fluoros work and you are willing to spend the time and money that's one thing, but on a purely practical basis, they are not the best choice for flowering.

I got some cfls for veg, and hps for flower. A dude just gave me a 1000 W hps the other day. DSCN2566.jpgThe bulb needs to be replaced, but this and the hood are straight.

I think a 400 bulb with fit in socket. I dont really want to run 1000, another 400 is gonna be a lot hotter probably.

I know Brick Top is legend, so with all due respect, did you Irish up your coffe this morning, or just have some really good smoke?
I think your prices are backwards on the lumatek and by your own statement a HPS is a HID light- so he was right, just not specific...

I put down HID because some people choose to flower with MH. Brick Top is known for his long winded accuracy. I don't hold it against him though, he seems cool.

No Irish coffee this morning. In fact I hardly ever drink, and hardly have for years. I would guess that it has been no less that five or six years since I had any alcohol, and that was Jello shots on New Years Eve. I did do a fistful of percs late last night and have been up now for 28-hours. They tend to have a speed-like effect on me.

I am a legend? Are you taking a piss?

The figures were not actual prices, they were difference figures between the price of the light he asked about and the Lumateks I used for examples of getting a lot more lighting for less money. Each figure was how much less each Lumatek would cost him than the light he asked about. That is why the 1000-watt light had what looked like a lower price than the 600-watt light. That is also why I said "For $185.00 less than" and "For $381.00 less than."

A while after posting the message I thought about how I said prices do not include shipping and thought it might cause some confusion even with the less than parts so I was going to go back and edit it, but I got sidetracked doing something else and forgot.

Sorry for any confusion.

lol from past experience when your pain killers start giving you energy that might mean you're physically addicted. not that it's a bad thing, just something to take into perspective i guess.
