True HP Aero For 2011

This thread really isn't about "a grow", but rather a resource and how to do for high pressure aeroponics. To be honest, how many times can you look at the same plants being grown, and not get bored eventually...

I got the Aquatec adjusted to 142 psi and that should work for me. I am going to do some test fires to see what the mist looks like tomorrow I hope. I think I am going to have to take the regulator out of the system. It's a 1/4 npt plastic unit plumed with 3/8 JG fittings. I think the orifice size is way too small. I have it set to around 100 psi but when it fires the 10 solenoids and bio controls nozzles it looses almost all of it's pressure. I did test fires of 3 seconds, that may be some of the problem after reading TB having his set to 1/2 of a second.

I am basing my setup on a design that Atomizer sent to me a while back. In American measurements its 40x40x18 inches to crop 9 plants, 3 wide x 3 deep. This is built out of plywood with 3/4 styrofoam insulation. The drain system is the drains that kitchen sinks use, placed one in each corner with the pluming underneath going to a single main drain. Each corner is down sloped to better enable drainage. I have silk screen in the bottom on top of those plastic diffusers that hanging ceilings use on the lights.

I am still hoping to be operational in about a week. I have decided to go with the GH three part formula that Atomizer suggested to TB. But I am wondering if I need to add any additives like B or anything else to this. This I am unsure of, and any help here would be appreciated.

KM- I believe all the nutrition you will ever need is in those bottles. Just fine tune and dial it in. It's my opinion most boosters are hype, and really overcomplicate your nute regimen. I'm glad to hear you are gonna try that square design chamber, it's based on the Atomix unit's dimensions. I had considered it myself, and may still try it eventually.
 
Well I tested something, and it didnt work out, kinda figured... I had my 1 micron clear filter housing between the res and pump's INLET, but it's proven to cause too much resistance for the pump to draw freely. It works, but I don't want the pump to burn out. I'd like to place it in the proper location between the pumps outlet and the accumulator but there is one problem (the reason why I placed it where I did in the first place). My unregulated pressure sits at around 138 psi, and the clear plastic housing is rated for maximum 125 psi working pressure. So should I chance it? -I think burst presure is usually 4x max working pressure rating-and hey, it's only 13 psi over. I suppose water hammer from closing of the solenoids should be accounted for in temporarily bringing the pressure much higher. Otherwise, I'll have to buy a stainless steel housing which is over 100 bucks, and also won't let me tell if the filter is dirty with a quick glance. Does anyone have any educated thoughts? I can't just pour my nutes through the filter bags into the res because there is too much ash/dust in the wind here from the sugar cane burning, it will always find it's way into the res just from sitting.
 
I am totally blazed off 4 diff strains right now so I don't have any educated thought for you TB, but I am still your personal cheerleader and keep fucking trying man!!!!!!!!!!

-Don't worry about running 138 psi in that filter, if it fails it will either leak at the joint or the top edge of the bowl will crack. Not likely to experience catastrophic failure.

-Why do you want to run that high a pressure anyway? Are you sure you can't get good results turning it down just a hair?

I don't know, just wondering.

That's kinda what I figured. With water, it won't explode dangerously like it would with something filled with air. I just wouldn't want it to fail down the line and lose a crop over it. I have to run these pressures due to the 30ish psi differential of my pressure switch, and wanting to run 100psi final regulated output pressures.

Nice r0m! So what's the deal, you have to fax in your order now?... Dickkhead- You'll probably want to get the "0.16 orifice (ultra low flow)" and with NPT fittings as opposed to barbed.

Hey r0m- in regards to the presure regulator, mine worked fine, until I disconnected my lines and re-plumbed the filter canister (which seems to be taking the overpressure fine). After I repressurized I could not get the regulator to stay at a set level, so I disassembled it (front and back) and took out the diaphram and needle valve plunger and checked for debris which I never found. I also slightly stretched the smaller compression spring from the backside to give it more tension. When I put it back together and pressurized- it is working perfectly with zero drift. You may want to try this. I also noticed the threads are shallow enough in the side ports where the JG NPT adaptors screw in that you don't want to tighten them all the way, otherwise thier openings will be pressed up against the middle core of the pressure regulator's insides and possibly obstruct the flow. Just use some teflon tape and don't crank all the way down- perhaps install them while the front cover is off so you can see how far in they are going.

BTW- I found if you click the "keep me logged in" checkmark when you first sign in, it won't do that to you... Still have to be careful hitting the backspace and going back a page- that one has killed some of my most longwinded posts- I HATE IT- lol...
