Thru-wall air conditioner conversion?

Hi . I'm fed up with portable ac"s . to much electricity wasted for the amount of cooling. If your thinking of getting one do yourself a favor and save your money. I have seen some window ac conversions where intake air is blown in side or top vents and heat exhausted through back with ducting and fans in order to have them inside grow room. I was wondering if any of you have have seen or done this yourself with a through-wall ac. I don't know exactly how they work, but they have no vents on side or top. the back of mine has a fan on one side of the back and the other side of back has radiator type fins in front of cooper coils. maybe this side would be where to blow intake air in. just a guess as i'm clueless as how they work. any ideas or experience on how to properly duct this type of unit would be greatly appreciated. They are also referred to as wall units or built in air conditioners.

I have a Wall unit in my cabin.
Some Portable AC kind of suck. Cheap ones
Wall or window units are the way to go. Wall and widow units dissipate their heat directly to the outside of the building. Helped by a fan in the unit. No need for a hose like the portable unit.
The difference between wall and window is the depth. Wall are designed with a deeper housing to penetrate the wall. Window unit are what they are. Designed to fit in a window space. But, both work the same.

I hope this makes sense. Because I'm a little messed up and not sure what the hell I'm talking about...LOL

Not sure if I even gave you the right information you were asking... forgive me?

I use a portable and it does a fine job, just one thing though, if you have a long run on the exhaust or its restricted at all due to too many tight turns in the flex/pipe then it just won't work, I had to boost my exhaust with a 6 inch can fan or else the portable won't cool the room, the exhaust HAS to be short and unrestricted or it just won't work.

and unless you get a split system you'll be pumping room air right out the exhaust. which means you'll be pumping odor and co2(if you run it) right out the exhaust. window units aren't split systems.

single hose portables are the same way, they pull a little room air over the coils to cool and then exhaust. you can modify a single hose portable to work as a dual hose pretty easy depending on the model. you can also modify a window unit to pull air from elsewhere to cool the coils, isolating it from the room/exhaust.

I use window units. I do not live in an area of high marijuana production and it is super hot so a lot of people actually put tin foil on bedroom windows so having a window that is completely covered but has an air conditioner in it does not attract any attention. My feelings are that if you live in the house and you don't make yourself look suspicious, and you always look like you belong were you are doing what your doing then no one will ever think twice about you. I use a carbon filter and have no smell issues.

kid1 ..no the air in the room recirculates. Hot air remains outside.
Check this URL. I believe it will help answer your question. Has a great diagram for you to look over.
It has a calculator to help with sizing your AC unit.
