About the nutrients; don't be worried, I was too at first but once you get her dialed in you'll be ok, remember more is less, specially when shes young. There's ALOT of Waterfarm grows in this sub-forum; that's what helped me along as I started my own, SCOTTYBALLS grow being the model for most of them out there, truly amazing results. Hey check out this journal that also did SugarPunch if you end up going with her. About the water , that tap water level is actually good, and the pH is surprisingly low to be tap water. If you can't buy some distilled water or have some sort of RO filtration system, that tap water will do, you could put in jugs or something and let is sit for a day or two, your ppm will go down a bit and you could mix with some pHdown and you'll have some decent water. The lower the ppm's the better because you can control your nutrients better in a sense; for example:

Your last reservoir change was to 400ppm.

case 1: Your tap water
water ppm: 100

case 2: RO or distilled water
water ppm: 5

Let's say several hours pass and you check your water to see the ppm levels. It reads 367ppm. In case 2 you know for sure that 99% of those 367ppm is nutrients so you know exactly how much she has consumed in that time span. In case 1 there is no way of truly knowing how much of those 367ppm is nutrients and what's water minerals left in the reservoir so it makes it a bit harder to have a clear picture of her nutrient uptake.

Any way hope it helps. Keep us posted.

I'm glad to hear that my water will do fine. I did not want to have to keep purchasing distilled water all the time. I can't afford a RO unit right now. I had one, but it froze over the winter and broke.

Check this thread out. Helped me out TREMENDOUSLY.

Indeed check out the thread that Awnox posted, it's very helpfull. Also have a look at Dayzt's waterfarm grow, very detailed. Here's the link: https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/418227-barneys-farm-tangerine-dream-waterfarm.html At the moment he's doing a new grow with 2 waterfarms, you'll find the link in his sig
I've been lurking rollitup for a few months now and have read both Dayzt's Tangerine Dream and am also following along on his Vanilla Kush grow right now. His journals are very informative. In fact, my set up is a pretty much a knockoff attempt at the success both SCOTTYBALLS and Dayzt have had with their waterfarm and scrog set ups.

In fact I'm almost certain your water has been filtered or something because it is VERY unusual to have 100ppm and 7.0 ph water, either you have really really good tap water being near the water source maybe or your house has a built in water filtration unit, either way your good with that water for sure. My tap water sucks, it's like 250+ppm the pH is 8+. It's getting expensive now though, she's drinking about half a gallon every day or so, in a bit I'll need to think of buying the RO system or something else. Walmart has baby water for a dollar the gallon and it's really good quality; has about 5 or so ppm and the ph is 7 on the dot. Think about it, near the end she'll be drinking a gallon or more a day! so 1 dollar or so everyday, it's not much if you have the budget I suppose but still is a pain in the ass to have to go out and buy water everyday. If your like me (paranoid as hell) I don't go to the same place every time just in case, I like to vary my water buys just in case the mans watching me (lmao , reading this last part over I know I am one paranoid mofo). In any case good to hear those seeds were shipped man, hope you get them soon. BTW in the mean time you should be running your waterfarm with pH'ed water to 5.5 - 5.9 so the hydroton can be ready for when the babies arrive. Rinse the hell out of it. What I did was get into a shower and drain and over and over and over and over again with regular water brushing it with my hands making sure all the dirt and particles wash away. Then run the waterfarm as much as you can with pH controlled water, this helps because if you don't you'll have a harder time controlling your ph when you start inserting nutes into the system, make the system accustomed to lower ph levels before you start feeding her. After your first grow it'll be "seasoned" and you won't have to rinse it again, just clean one time after your grow. Hope it helps man.

Finally!! a real update can be made haha. Today I received my seeds in the mail and I'm ready to get started soon. I received 2x sugar punch, 2x shackzilla, 2x killing fields, and 2x mad shack which were the freebies. I think I have decided to germinate 1 mad shack seed since it is the quickest flowering of the seeds I got at around 8-10 weeks all others are 10+ weeks. I will be putting the seed into a wet paper towel tonight and will update soon as progress occurs.

Thanks! I'm exicted to get this going!

I've adjusted the ph in the waterfarm to 5.9 and have the seed soaking in a paper towel within a plastic container. I decided on mad shack feminized. I also made a ghetto beer can reflector for my 6500k CFL bulb for use during the seedling stage. I will update with pictures when my tap root is 1" long and will place it directly into the waterfarm. I'm a little concerned with stretch so for now my estimate is probably 3 weeks of veg @ 18/6 before switching to 12/12. I will need to construct a scrog screen in the next couple weeks. Stay tuned!

MD- I myself played the wait game - I have ordered from both Sannie's as well as Nirvanna- placed different times and both took 3 weeks --all I can say is Cus. Svs. with Sannie's SUPER! Would highly recommend him-have yet to fully grow out his KF (Long story lost 27 due 2 My retardedness! NOTE:106degF =DEATH ) 100% Germd IMO his looked better than Nirvanna- order, both in seed size and seedling size/health, but if his beans r anywhere near as good as CS I will b thrilled :) HappyGrowing 2 all :) PS:Thanks for the leads/refs. Hope 2 get my act together soon.

Okay.. Seed hasn't cracked yet, but it is sitting in some damp paper towel so any day now. I will post pics as soon as it has cracked. I'm going to put the seed with taproot directly into the hydroton. Will be growing any day now:mrgreen:

On my first sannie's grow too (see sig), interested to see if all the fuss is justified! Just over 2 weeks into flower. I was originally gona go down the waterfarm route but decided to save it for next grow. I'm interested to see how well u cope as a first timer, wana know how much harder and more on point u have to be in comparison to a soil grow. Good luck man, i'm sub'd for this one.

Oh dude compared to a soil grow, just doesn't compare really. With the Waterfarm you have TOTAL control of your ambient and your girl; serves as a double edged sword though, if your not on top of that control shit can go south real quick, quicker than in soil for sure, but if you love coming home to your grow and testing stuff, checking her constantly, basically giving her the time and attention she needs (and deserves ;) ) then your golden with the Waterfarm bro. I couldn't be happier to be honest and I've never seen marijuana grow as fast and strong as it does in a WF, just make sure you follow all the advice that SCOTTYBALLS, mr2shim, kriznarf and plenty others have posted in their previous WF grows and I promise you, you won't go wrong.

By my own experience as a first timer with the Waterfarm, give it a go if you really like growing your shit and have time to dedicate to her, it's not hard but it takes commitment.

Oh yeah! haha I've been lurking this forum for months now so I have definitely read through your journal already. I love the kinex scrog. I can't believe how low and flat you have been able to keep your plant. I still have no signs of cracking or anything with the seed yet. Coming up on 72 hours now. Stay tuned.

 Okay so my seed has finally cracked a bit, but I'm going to wait until the taproot is nearly an inch in length or so before I place it into the waterfarm. Then the growth explosion will hopefully follow soon after! stay tuned.

Some progress has been made so it's time for an update. Seed cracked, was planted in the waterfarm, and now has both cotyledon and its first serrated leaves emerging. Leaves seem to be kinda droopy... Don't know what it means or if it is bad so if you have any input let me know. Enjoy the photos::lol:

Na your good. Those cotyledons stay like that curved downward until they fall off, your doing great. Try not to move the WATERFARM around so much now because the seed is trying to establish itself a nice home and she's very loose in there right now. For me my first time with the WF I kept trying to move the pebbles around her and she kept sinking in deeper and deeper until I just let her do her own thing and voila, she started to correct herself on her own. Soon you'll start to see her really take off.

Those who drink Australian, think Australian! :D

Good going mate. What I've done to boost moisture for my seedling was to cover it with a transparent party cup. Worked up to today that outgrew the cup

Okay cool, I have turned a fan on in my tent and it seems to have warmed things up a bit with the heat from just the light. It's running at about 71 F right now and the leaves have perked up a bit now so everything is looking good. My ph seems to be rising every time I check. It migrates back up to 7.0 ish so I re adjusted the res back down I hope that's okay. Since the roots are not in there yet I figured it was fine.

Thanks! I think I'm going to cover the farm in foil soon so that may help to boost the moisture a bit. I don't have any clear party cups around just dirty blue and white ones from beer pong. Anyway Thanks for the tip and for following along.

Sweet! I'm excited to see what I can pull out of this and I think it will be a great learning experience.

Sounds like your temps are on point friend. Anything from 70 - 85 degrees is good IMO.

About the pH; I'm assuming you didn't pre-rinse the hydroton with pH'ed water hu? If you didn't then that's why the pH is raising even after you lower it, it's the hydroton. The hydroton if not rinsed thoroughly also raises your ppm as well as your pH a bit so keep that in mind. What I did before I even placed her in there was rinse the hydroton with regular water and a hose until all the loose sediment that came with it was gone (as much as you can get rid of) then I set up the Waterfarm and filled it up with pH'ed water and let it run for about a week before I even had the seeds. This helped out tremendously but even so I still had a tiny raise in ppm and pH once the nutrients and the seedling were added (very very slight though).

In any case don't worry too much about your pH right now, if it's at 7 it's fine for now. After you reach a certain amount of nutrients in your reservoir most nutrients tend to "buffer" the pH rather well and it will actually go to where it needs to be on it's own. This happen for me when I hit about 900-1000 ppm nutrient solution of FloraNova Bloom (one part).

And my 2 cents regarding that foil on top of the Waterfarm; I know that some growers here use it but I don't. Reason for me is because to me it seems that the tin foil will act as a heating agent to the hydroton and your reservoir. Think about it, all that heat emanating from the light and it hits the tin foil, it WILL heat up whats under neath for sure so if you have a problem keeping your temps low I really suggest you don't place the foil unless you really see some problems like algae or something like that, otherwise I'd say don't do it, I didn't it and never had any problems. Also I believe this restricts air flow in the Waterfarm itself, the more oxygen your roots get the better she will grow and the more yield she will give.

Hope it helps friend, keep us posted.
