Ghetto Grow

After babying and growing my first plant, putting it through hell, and eventually finding out it was a male I have decided to restart; and with my freshly acquired knowledge. I ascertained two plump dark bagseeds from a quarter I consumed. Let it be known I have spent $0 on this project so far, and refuse to! I got all of the stuff from around the house.

I'm using 1 23w 6500K CFL and 1 23w 2700K CFL, an oscillating fan, a heating pad, a lot of mirrors, and a 2x3x4 box lined with aluminum foil (yes I know foil is bad) growing medium is 3/4th potting soil and 1/4th seed starter (keeps it nice and spongy) when they are bigger I'll put them each in a 12" pot. Nutes? No way! There's a free way to fertilize your plants, 1 part urine to 10 parts water... allegedly. I'm going to try using only pee to nourish my plants... we'll see how that goes. Definitely sub to this one!

Germinated seedlings, planted in 3" inch square pots, placed on heating pad (heathly root production, I've used this starting off other types of plants) turned on fan, and fired up the lights as close as possible to the soil on 24 HR cycle.

Day 1
By the end of the day my sprouts have already broken the soil! Due to the heating pad the moisture leaves the soil pretty quickly, have to mist the soil every few hours as it's dry all the way to the bottom of the containers.

Day 2
Already about 1 1/2 inches long, dark stems, bright leaves. These babies look a lot better than other sprouts I've had. Usually the stems are whiteish green at this point, never seen dark purple/blue before.

Let's see how this goes. I'm trying to grow them with just two CFL's and see how long it takes/how much I get out of it. For science!

WEEK 1 - DAY 7
9:57AM 11/12/11 - GROW CYCLE 24 HR LIGHT
Had some bitching about closet space occur and after cutting almost every finger, I managed to engineer a PC grow box. Got 3 male outlet to female bulb insert adapters lugged into a power strip, also mounted one extra fixture on the side of the box for another light. Got 2 23w 6500K and 2 23w 2700K all outputting about 1,650 lumens each (according to the packaging.) Hot wired 2 computer fans (1 intake blowing air on the plants, 1 outtake sucking heat off the bulbs) to a 12v power supply, awesome! It would be cool if I had a regulator/timer for these fans, does anyone know about installing one or what I need?

Babies are 1 week old today, one is doing alot better than the other but they are both alive, still have dark purple stems,

bright green leaves. They seem much happier in all the new lights. Heat hasn't been an issue whatsoever. I've been stifling

all stretching by running lights 24 HRS and keeping the plants as close as humanly possible to the lights so they don't reach

for them. In these little pots I'm using to start them they seem bone dry every time I check them so I've been misting soil till it's moist and letting them run dry again.

I'm planning on scrogging/fimming these for the maximum yield. Anyone know ways I can rig up a scrog screen or what I can use to make one? I'm coming up blank on that one.

PICTURES!!!!

I added a heatsink because for some reason the new 2700K soft white lights get really hot for CFL's, the 6500K daylights do not get nearly as hot. Now the heatsink absorbs the heat from the lights and the fan hits it and the outtake pulls heat out. Temperature issue resolved without having to add another fan. WIN!

Also started working on my scrog screen, hoping to get an OZ from this grow, any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

- Should I veg them on 24 HR light the whole time since it's a small space?
- What size pot should I transplant them to (consider it can't be higher than 4" or this just won't work)
- How can I hide the light coming from the fans without constricting airflow? That's one for the sages...

thanks

Transplanted the little ones into the pots they'll finish out in... tried to lightproof the box, got most of it, but the case doesn't fit right so gonna have to take a hammer to it and bend that mother fucker where it needs to be.

Pics are current light set up, seedlings, & the updated PC box!
When should I switch to 12/12 on these? or should i veg on 24 hour the whole time?

Doing good after being transplanted yesterday, and I wish I would've taken pics of the roots. I had these babies on a heating pad till day 7, and those little 3x3x3x3 square pots I had them in were SOLID root system. They came out almost as perfect squares with lots of healthy roots! Heating pad first week FTW!

Here's shots of the two plants, one is doing great, one is either growing slow or is a little mutant freakplant. You tell me:

Gimp, still probably going to be a good plant.

You got a great idea there with the heating pad. Gonna try that on my next grow. As far as the peenutes, interested in how the taste of the smoke will be afterwards...lol. Will be watching this one, nice job.

thanks man! it works great for all types of plants; promotes healthy root production. however (in my experience) small containers it does dry the soil out very quickly. thanks for readin

tonight they switch to 12/12 light cycle. so my babies were doing great today marks day 14 from germed seeds... then this morning i gave them the first dose of peenutes. i gave them a light feeding with 1:10 ratio of pee to water. EPIC FAIL! my pee must be toxic because these babies are fucking burned. bad. also they were in containers with no drainage (wasn't an issue until now) when i may need to flush, so I didn't flush them but I did move them to homemade tupperware wrapped in black tape with drain holes in the bottom (street certified) so if i need to flush them now... i can. they are still producing new nodes and leaves, but they look piss poor (hahahaha) not freaking out, sure they'll live through it but i want to make them grow as best as possible... obviously no more peenutes for a while, next time i'll have to experiement with a 1:20 ratio

sooo someone with more experience step in here please, what should i do with my burned babies to help them out?

well my babies are looking a little better after being flushed, but still suffering. i have little experience with cannabis growth but i've killed my fair share of other plants and these look like their done for. i'm praying they will regenerate, but if they don't i started germing 4 more seeds today. also ordered some of these bad ass babies, can't smoke em but they are fucking awesome regardless. i enjoy growing all types of plants: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pinguicula-Vulgaris-10-SEEDS-Carnivorous-Butterwort-/220840784500?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336b22f274

haha dude i like your style. good thining on the heat sink.

those pots are really way too small. i know what your dealing with size-wise, but at least you should get one of those windowsill planters and see if it will fit across the bottom, and then transplant both your babies in opposite sides of that.

and i wouldnt veg them 24-0, go 19-5 or 20-4. dark periods are crucial.

and a light block is what you need. basically a thin box placed over the fan outlet, missing the bottom panel of the box. it should just redirect the airflow, but stop light.

sub'd!

Awww man ... you pissed them off ... sorry to hear that.
Pee contains a lot of sodium and chloride which are toxic to Cannabis. Even cut 10 to 1 you have a 300-400 ppm solution of salt.
You also have about 1000 ppm (!) urea, which is a "hot" sort of nitrogen.
I hope your babies live, and I recommend finding other sources of nutrients ... preferably some that you didn't make yourself, "no hands", ~grin~ ... cn

thanks for the info man, i'll be getting a light block here pretty soon for my fans. also, the light schedule has been changed to 18/6 for veg (read more in depth about what happens during dark periods) thanks for readin!

first off man you are awesome for all the help! the peenutes seemed like a good idea, but yes after more in depth reading about cultivation i have decided to use other nutes. after your advice on the other thread i posted about flushing the babies, they look much, much better than they did. they have continued to grow even after flushing/transplant shock, new growth on the tops, however i'm worried about the color of new leaves! flushing did severely fuck up my perlite/peat mossy/tree barky medium though, its still wet and i'm trying like crazy to dry that shit out, put a heating pad under it and added an extra fan to dry the shit off and maintain humidity/temp. take a look at the pics bud. thanks again

i seriously want to FIM the yellow curly leaves on one of the seedlings.. have read its both good and bad, whattaya think?:wall:
