Sorry guys, I won't be on much until I recover from surgery.

I got a sliver in my hand on Tuesday, By Thursday morning my hand was swollen and sore, went to the Hospital on Thursday evening, they prescribed antibiotics, Friday went to E-Room because my hand had doubled in size and the pain was unbearable. The infection had gotten so bad that they ended up doing surgery and I now have my hand totally opened up with a 4 inch gash through the palm all the way to the bones and ligaments to let the pus drain out. It's nasty and hurts a shit load, supposed to get it stitched back closed in a week.

I'm right handed and of course this happened to my right hand.

I'll be watching your posts though.

Good luck. I just got home 30 mins ago from my second back surgery. Rex hospital in Raleigh is fantastic and my neurosurgeon is one of the best in the area as well. Another 60 count bottle of 10mg percs to keep me company for the next week or so, life ain't so bad.

Total outlay of cash to hospital for back surgery/general anesthetic was $535.
Total outlay of cash to the surgeon was $285.
60 count bottle of percs - $11.28
My cost for the MRI leading up to surgery - $80
Two visits to doctor prior to surgery - Primary physician $60 / Neurosurgeon consult $10 (deductible was met by this point from previous visits in the year)

All in, I'm out about a grand for everything related to my back... Blue Cross/Blue Shield... gotta say, I'm more than happy with what I had to pay and the unbelievable professionalism and warmth I was shown from start to finish by everyone I came into contact with.

Actually, I retired 7 years ago at the ripe old age of 36. I started a small business a few years ago, but get my insurance through my wife's employer. To your point though, being unemployed with no insurance and having to foot the full cost would have been a bite in the ass to my pocketbook. I would probably survive it better than most, but it would hurt to be sure. I don't have a problem with health care reform in regards to people in the situation you describe or for actions that reduce the cost of health care, we just have very different ideas on what actions will get us there. Don't want to get into it on this thread, just wanted to wish Drama well and relay my very positive experience. Happy Turkey day!!

COBRA perhaps?:?

Or makes you a carrier of a contagious Disease Like TB
Now you're being silly! TB is a highly contagious disease which any local health dept. would likely treat for free. It's up to the individual to seek treatment though.
