Wrong to be stoned around kids?

Stoned is one thing, smoking around them is quite another. Also, the age of the kids plays a factor, as does what you call a kid. My niece and nephew come over to my house to smoke (and just to shoot the shit). They are 16 and 18, respectively. I would much rather them be here on my couch, in my house where I know they are safe. I do not supply them with weed, but then, I'm not growing anything ATM either. I nkow that they WILL smoke, regardless of what anyone says to them, so I see providing a safe environment for them as being paramount, and being a good uncle. It also helps them to be totally comfortable here where there are no judgement calls, and they tend to open up and really talk to me about things going on with them as well.

I am a parent and watching my kids right now. I have not smoked this morning and i am sure my kids can tell. I am quicker to yell and not play with them when "sober" than when i take a couple puffs. I don't get "stoned" basically ever anymore, just smoke enough to take me to a comfortable level for everyone involved and stop there. I think anyone who plans to smoke while watching kids needs to completely understand what benefits and risks they are taking by smoking that bowl.

Don't like to be high around kids, I don't think it supports what's best for me. I leave that to private time when they aren't around.

Depends what ur like when ur high, and how high u plan on getting, i also think the child age would come into play, a young child hell no, an older child that plays alone or watches Tv does it really matter ?? I have been high around kids because people randomly show up, or i need to go somewhere, but i would never smoke around a child, even cigarettes should not be smoked around children .

Completely depends on who the person is that is smoking the marijuana. Most experienced people will be able to handle themselves but a newbie probably won't be able to.

well my mom and dad have smoked my whole life, and i dont think its wrong as long as you arent smoking in front of them and you still do your job.
however i smoke alot with my sister and her friend, and her friend always brings over her daughter.
her friend sits the toddler in front of the tv for 20 min and we go smoke, out of sight from the baby, and if the baby wanders over or cries we stop and deal with it. she comes first, even when we are smoking.
now if the baby is over (cause we're babysitting) we never ever smoke, out of respect because thats not our kid.
so its a flip flop. Its not right to do right in front of kids, but if you're stoned and still doing the job and the kids still come first, then yeah, go smoke in your room real quick and then come back out to do your job

btw ive seen her friend baked out of her mind have the fastest catlike reflexes to keep her daughter safe (the little girl was looking at dvds, trying to pull one out, it got stuck, the dvd case almost fell on her plus the burning candle on top of it) her friend leaped off the couch in one giant leap, shoved away the dvd case, stablized the candle, and the baby didnt get a scratch or know what was going on.

it just depends on making sure you still act like a parent when your high, even when accidents happen

I don't think its wrong to be stoned around kids. However, I am sure this would depend on the person. I never smoke around anyone in my family and I also usually smoke alone. I find that I am more peaceful and relaxed when stoned than when I'm not and I function better as a parent. I smoke from sun up to sun down and still accomplish whatever I need to do and take care of my family and all that jazz.

I don't think it is wrong to have a buzz on around kids. Being so stoned that you can't supervise, care for, interact with, play with, protect and all that is not cool though. Smoking directly in front of them is a different thing and I don't do that either. After work i have a couple tokes out of sight to chill and still am able to fulfill my parental duties and them some. Once they are in bed I smoke some more. Does that makes me a terrible parent? I don't think so. Most of the people my age grew up with parents having a few drinks after work to chill and to me that is far worse. To each their own.

I've avoided a car accident while stoned out of my skull after a movie one time, my girlfriend started crying lol, it was like slow-mo in my mind, similar to the bullet time in the Max Payne video games. Also missed slamming into and destroying a coyote by 3' going 70mph on the freeway stoned.

Is being 'stoned' a valid equivalent to being 'drunk'? I personally don't think it is. I feel there's no amount of weed I could smoke that would get me so high I lose inhibitions or could no longer walk in a straight line, where as if I drink, I get noticeably more intoxicated every drink I have past a certain point.

However, I agree it's wrong to smoke around kids (or anyone whose not comfortable with it really).

I voted other to differentiate between "being" stoned and "getting" stoned around kids. Nitpicky maybe, but I have no problem doing anything after smoking that I could/would do without weed. I didn't watch that driving video, but I do know that there are two federal studies, one by the highway safety folks and one by dot that concluded there is NO evidence that use of cannibis impairs driving. People have prevailed in court based on these studies.

This is a other for me, there so many pros and cons on the subject. For example, there are many of users on RIU with children, now I'm assuming because they're on this website they smoke/grow on daily-weekly basis depending on the person, now I dont know these people but I'm sure theyr able to have a steady life/job/ and relationship with their children and maintain a healthy smoking cycle. But we also have the people who tend to smoke "too much". Being stoned all the time, to me personally, you cannot really adhere to the world around you, so if your children need you or your help, and your stoned, I feel as sometimes your judgements could be slightly altered in a negative direction. Also being stoned in a public area with your child, to me, is wrong, bad impressions are the worst, but to do it to your child, is even worse.

to the point that you couldnt watch a kid tho? i agree with everyone you shouldnt smoke in front of the kids, but shit they have more of a chance of somethin bad happenin to them if im not high than if i am. last time i watched a small kid i got stupid high, colored with him for a bit then put him in his playpen and handed him a xbox controller and told him we both were playin and that shit worked till my ex came home lol
