Logging companies purchasing permits to selectively harvest lumber on multi use government land is VERY VERY different than the government selling away prized federal parks.

But I hope you heard that the government is closing 60% of the parks. As of this year. Closing them as in you are no longer allowed to visit them.

I'm saying that the Government would never sell Yosemite. I don't know where you came up with that tangent of an argument. But aside from your weird tangent - a logging company could never make a profit by purchasing that land and logging it. If someone were to buy it they would likely want to preserve it, but if not then they would want to profit from it, which means it would not be a logging company as they could never profit from it.

If someone really wanted to make money from it they would preserve it and charge a gate fee/fee for camping... kind of like what is happening now.

Clear cutting isn't legal in California. Do you know how much that park would cost? Do you think you could make money paving the entire 760k acres over? Have you ever been there? There are parking lots... And hotels and restaurants...

What would be the incentive of clear cutting it? Say you buy it super super cheap at 1.5 billion. Clear cut the entire thing to produce 10million in lumber. Ouch...I just lost a billion dollars. Ooops

Either you have no fathom of economics, capitalism or the rule of law. In reading many of your posts over the past few days it is apparent that you have either drank the cool-aid offered up by the socialists in the USA, product of government education or just like to read what you write.
If you are or ever have been a property owner then you would know you cannot ramdomly do whatever the hell you want to that property. This is a right which has been taken or given away by the people of the US over the course of several generations. You have an EPA which regulates many facets of property ownership and the land useage, not even to mention the layers upon layers of local, county, state and other federal agencies which also regulate land useage.
So you can yell and scream with all your might but land useage and business regulations by government for better or worse, depending on your policital views protect against your vision of anarchy by the people.

China has to obey by all the same laws when dealing with US land. lol. So if China made it legal in China to dump nuclear waste could they just start dumping it on all the land they own here? Do you think Chinese owned factories in the US don't follow EPA guidelines like the US companies do?

Well the corporations are already in power. The government enables the private sector to be stronger and create these super corporations with its regulations and eliminating the free market.

Shrinking government will not create some sort of doomsday scenario where the corporate reins supreme, hell, we are living in that scenario now..but it would free up the markets...We do have anti-trust, fraud, and other laws that keep corporations from doing too much harm.

The last time the Sherman Anti trust act was used was the break up of ATT - a loooong time ago. Now you can't tell me that there are no effective monopolies currently. You cannot oversee big business with small government.

This practice is done in many places. The government sells and/or leases property to a private company for logging. As part of the contract there are terms that ensure the company does not clear cut the land, a practice that hasnt been done since I have been alive in America because it just isnt as profitable as doing a renewable forest.

The government makes money from property taxes and/or lease income. The company makes a perpetual profit by logging and reforesting the land.

Why can you not believe that anything a private company could do could be good for the environment and/or the taxpayers?

I bought a corn farm that had a crop of corn ready for harvest. The farm was $500,000 and I only made $50,000 from my harvest. I guess I'll salt my fields and buy another farm.

Trees are highly regulated organically grown crops - there is a lot of science that goes into it to make sure the forest remains healthy. It's just like organic farming, they aim for high, fast, sustainable yields. Sustainable means they take care of the forest.

I can't cut down any of my trees without a permit. If I put shredded glass on my front lawn that would be an immediate lawsuit.
