Government Regulation

Nope, the reason people get overweight isn't because private businesses exist, its because they consume too many calories. There is NO WAY McDonalds can be held responsible for you being fat, you got fat by choice because the government regulates everything and lulls you into a false sense of security by saying that all the food McDonalds serve must be good for you because it passes all the stringent rules designed to make sure all our food is "safe" to eat.

You still believe you have choice and volition. Kindly explain why each generation grows fatter NoDrama, of course it is because people are eating too much, in the history of man, why are they now eating so much more? We have had an abundance of food in this country for a hundred years or more, why now NoDrama?

  • why they spend billions to influence people to eat what they have DESIGNED to addict you to.

I dont know what you are addicted to but it isnt the truth.

McDonalds makes food that tastes good. Food that tastes good is frequently fattening. People eating large amounts of good tasting fattening food get....FAT!

Do you believe in any personal responsibility at all or would you like a food attendant to feed you to make sure you dont overeat?

Mcdonalds DOES "make" people eat their hamburgers. You can be self righteous about how people "should" skip that bag of fries and get out and walk but explain to me why they spend billions to influence people to eat what they have DESIGNED to addict you to. Now look at children who are prone to be influenced by these campaigns., each generation is a bit fatter - why do you think that is when in our history before fast food it was not, or not nearly at the same rate.
And why don't I go to McDonalds - the food sucks. :joint::peace:

Do you think people eat food just because someone on T.V. tells them to?

I'd guess you probably believe what the politicians are telling you kiss-ass

I believe in personal responsibility and I know that it is diminished through advertising. Mcdonalds spends billions on marketing - to children, they design food so that it trips pleasure centers in the brain - hell watch "supersize me", the guy isn't lying nor are his studies false. You can't seem to explain why all this has happened in a short amount of time can you NLX? Why are we now fatter than we have ever been and why are our children fatter than us and why are we getting fatter still?

What is Mcdonald's goal NLX? What is it that they look to do every hour of every day? SELL MORE HAMBURGERS - the only way they can do that is to get people to EAT MORE OF THEM.

No, but I know that people eat more fast food than they did 10 years ago, why is that? Have people just gotten hungrier?

That makes no sense

I am sorry your so weak cannado. I am not drawn irresistably toward Mickey D's like a bug to a light. Your life must be hell.

How fat are you? Do you belong to a support group? I think they may be able to help.

I havn't eaten at Mcdonalds for 15 years. It does however "make sense". You fail to answer, why do we grow fatter as a people every generation and why did that trend start?

What the hell do you think advertising is for? "notifying you of a product's availability?" Don't you think companies can spend far less to do that?

I thought you just said Advertising affected a person's self control. How can that be if you have managed to resist for so long?

It does illustrate how you want government to fuck with other people's lives as long as it doesnt affect you.

Hey, Japan has just started forcing the companies there to measure the waistlines of all their employees and family members. And if they turn out to be too fat, the company gets fined.

I bet you would find that program to be just swell in the USA...

People are influenced by television, because they are stupid and passive and don't want to learn anything that doesn't come out of the box. Dump your TV, you aren't getting any real pleasure out of it anyway, other than the guilty feelings you have from not being able to keep up with the Jones family. Government regulates Television doesn't it?

People are fatter today because they eat more and exercise less than they used to...

It has been said before in this thread. Do you have ADD?

Ah! "people are influenced by television" And of course much of Mcdonalds advertising is on Television, it isn't the shows themselves that influence people's eating and shopping habits when it comes to fast food is it?

Why now? As I said, people have had access to all the food they want for over a century. You needn't attempt to insult me with those ADD remarks, that won't help your argument. They eat more and they excercise less. I'll grant you the excercise. Why do they eat more NL?

McDonalds also has low prices, and like Wal Mart, they use their position in the framework of the regulations the government has to keep themselves as top dog.

Absolutely true, but low prices and being top dog doesn't "force" people to eat more than they have to, in fact one would think that low prices would encourage consumers to eat just enough and save their money.

Why are YOUR children so FAT?

What is this collective WE?

I am an individual - I have learned that I have the most influence over my life and being. :hump:

I am not looking for something else .... to blame my problems on. :o

The ADD remark was in reference to the fact the question had been asked and answered once if not several times already in the conversation. I get tired of going in circles.

You say you believe in free will but immediately go into a demonstration about why you do not believe in free will.

I dont care if my neighbor is fat. If he wants to be fat, good for him. If he got fat from beer or from McDonalds so be it. You know how tempting those beer ads eh?

I was 60# overweight. It wasnt due to McDonalds, it was due taking in too many calories and not exercising. When I got tired of it I changed my diet and lost the weight. McDonalds had nothing to do with any of my personal decisions. Sometimes I eat McDonalds 10 times a week. I havent had it in a week though.

What frustrates me is that you want the government to force companies to change the taste or ingredients of their food to make me thinner. That is not free will, that is invasive market manipulation. And I strenuously object to that.

If you have a problem with McDonalds, stay away from it. But dont tell me whether to eat there or not and what they can serve on their menu because I just dont want to hear it.

So you are claiming that there isn't a obesity epidemic in this country?
It's only "my" children that are fat?
