so i basically understand how to cure the buds. after they dry from hanging upside down, you put them into glass jars and open them a certain amount of times a day. my question is how many times a day do you open the jars and for how long? also, do you take the buds completely out of the jars and spread them all out on some cardboard or something or do you leave them in the jars? the last part to my series of questions is when do you stop the entire curing process? when its all over do you just keep them in airtight jars in a cool dark place for months and months untill they go bad?thanks so much everyone!

You got the right ideas.


When you put it in jars, and "Burp" it. you do it 2-4 times a day, 15 minutes a burp. You only lay buds out if they are really moist.

The longer the cure, the better, more potent, the smoke.

What Tokes said. I mix them up by jiggling a little too. I had mold form once where two buds were touching.

ok thanks so much. i think i understand how to do it all now without screwing up. i just have 2 more questions and i f you or someone could answere them for me than i'll have a perfect grow this summer and it will be sweet!

1) when you cut the plants down to harvest, is it better to hang the whole plant upide down for 24 hours or do you cut the plant down and immediatly start trimming the buds to hang them.

2) im going to cure for like 3 to 4 weeks, and my question is after you finish the entire curing process and you close the top to the jars, are you not supposed to open the jars up again until your ready to smoke the buds in that jar, or can you open the jars again and expose them to fresh air? how long will the weed stay good for in an airtight glass mason jar?

yo j, I usually trim the main stem branch by branch so you have a natural hook to hang the bud with from the main stalk if that makes sense. I usually will leave all leaves and just take off later but it dries slower. remember to make sure your stems 'snap' before jarring. and after a day in the jar they might sweat out more water which will make the stem bend again. So take the jar and empty into a paper sack for a bit until the stems
'snap' then you can jar. I burp for 20 mins a day for a week or so. If you look around yu can find a canning sealer for masons you want to store for a long time. Or walmart has those seal-a-meal things. But a tight jar works good for me. Only open to smell the sweet aroma...........Have Fun!

i used wide mouth mason jars. filled about 3/4 of the way. burp 2 times a day for 15-30 minutes each time. make sure u move them around alot or mold will form.

I'm new to curing. If you were to put something absorbent in and around the buds (like paper towel) and change it every day would that help or increase the chance of mold.

Where do you store the jar? ie. dark/light, temperature

I have kept it in airtight mason jars in the dark for 6 mos and it smoked nicely. I opened them periodically to check for mold. Beyond 6 months I don't know.

if your buds get too dry just put a semi wet paper towel in and close up the jar for abbut an hour. then check the nugs again if they are still dry repeat the process. as long as you burp the jar everyday for 1-2 hours they should'nt mold. as long as you move the buds around often they shouldnt mold!

Thanks for the feedback. The topic is on curing, I don't see how my post is not relevant to this thread and I certainly wasn't trying to 'steal' it. sorry

As for your question, air, light, moisture and heat degrade your stash so removing as much of these things as possible will lengthen the life of your buds. They won't keep forever in a jar. If you want to keep them for years I suggest you put them in plastic bags, chryovac them to remove all air and keep the bags somewhere cold and dark (even in the fridge).

I remember reading somewhere, that stored m.j lasts for up to two years.

I met two blokes a while back, that did an outside grow, cured & dried, and stored their weed in vacuum sealed boxes, the boxes had a valve that sucked the air out.

I smoked some of their 2 year old weed, and although it did get me stoned, I don't think it was as good as what it would've been say a year & a half ago.

T.H.C degrades with age, but you'll have smoked your weed within two years right? lol

Anyone with a surplus problem, I'd be happy to help you out anytime? As for storage goes. Glass is tried and true. Pop top mason jars usually create the best vacuum seal and are available at any arts and crafts place for relatively cheap.

Oxygen degrades the thc...if your bud is stored properly it will last a while and it will get better with age Like wine.

I agree with most of the above, and would also say that if you have your bud in a jar for more than 6 months, put it in the freezer. By this point it should be dry enough, and if sealed properly will keep quite well. Its the same idea as keeping a carton of smokes in the fridge.
