What's too cold during the dark times?

i think you'll be fine at those temps, they're obviously not optimal, but i don't think it will hurt anything.. the worst i can think that they'd do is slow down growth a lil if they get too low or too high ime...

Agreed, My lights on temps are high 70's low 80's with lots of air circulation, and lights off are mid 60's. Never had any issues and all the ladies love it.

Damn! Down to 58*! I'm spending a lot of $ on electricity that keeps the basement at 65* on a chest level thermometer outside the tent but 2 thermometers in the tents are at 58*. Could the fans be responsible? I'm going to cut the exhaust fan back a little and see what that does.

What racerboy71 said. Not worth losing sleep over. I let the temps of my shit fluctuate all over the place, just like mother nature does.

yah, try and cut the exhaust back some, or possibly even turning off the fans when the lights are out, that's how i roll, lol.. this way it tends to keep what heat built up when the lights were on in the tent, or in my case, closet, and will prevent them from dropping too much ime..

Cutting back a little on the exhaust fan and turning the other fan off raised the temp to 59. Don't worry about that? I could add space heater. Or stop fretting.

imo, i'd think you're cool where you're at, pun intended ofo course, lol...

but seriously, i like to think of what plants go through in the great outdoors... temps in some areas where cannabis grows naturally dip well below what you're experiencing now if not much lower still...
i grow a veggie garden every year, and this year my peppers were doing great right up till the first night we had frost, and the temps were easily in the 40's at night for a week or two and like i said, they were still producing nice peppers up till that point.. :)

Stop fretting. You're good. What type reflective lining are you using? Something that would help if you aren't already using it would be a product called Reflectix, available from Menards, Lowes, etc. At Menards around me it's $30 for a 4ftw x 25ftl roll. It's literally a big sheet of bubble wrap with Mylar on both sides. Uber reflective and it insulates. Works great for basement/underground/colder area grows.

great advice m8, i hadn't even thought of insulating the grow at all for some odd reason, lol.. but now you bring it up, i know they sell that insulation stuff in big 4 x 8 sheets like plywood, and it's silver on one side or maybe even both, been awhile since i've worked with it, and it has some insulation in the middle.. this stuff would be great for your space by the sounds of it.. not sure if it's the same stuff that hollywoods talking about or not, but my stuff sounds a lil different to me, although i'm sure both would work fine.. :)

That is what I do! My exaust fans kick off with the lights and the circ fans stay on 24/7 and I don't have any issues with temps or humidity. my rooms are round 75 on and 65 off.

I'm in a tent. I have the Reflectix on the floor in addition I have about 6" of foam they're sitting on. This is my first grow and so far the lights have been on 24. If I don't have to worry about 58 then I won't. Thanks for the help.

ambient air temps are important but i feel IME the root system temps are the key to night time air tempature tolerence if you can keep the roots @ 70* @ night you can have just about any temp you want (could make for some neat color changes) and it does ;-). Here is my reasons why in nature ambient ait temps can flutuate alot when a cannabis is planted in ground the roots can run deep insulating it from air tempature changes were it mattters most with most annuals, as first frost usually brings a end to the season

Snap, i just read this in another thread where someone was asking if 30 degrees lights off was too cold, lol, and had forgotten about this tip as well.

if you're running the lights during the day time, you could try and run them at night instead when the temps outside are going to be colder, and have lights out during the day time when the temps are somewhat warmer..
i do the opposite as well in the warm summer months by running the lights at night cuz it's too hot during the daylight hours..

That is different stuff, although it works great as well. Johns Manville is a popular brand of what you're talking about Racerboy, I am extremely familiar with it as it's what the walls and ceiling in my garage are insulated with. A few issues with using it for a grow area that I can think of, 1. It's straight up insulation, and I believe it will retain a little more heat than you'd probably want, one of the reasons I used it in the garage, and 2. the dust and particles it will make every time your bump it probably aren't the most beneficial to growing lol :) The big benefit with reflectix is that it insulates via a cushion of trapped air that retains it's temp due to the reflective properties of the mylar in which it's sandwiched. The stuff is the only thing I'll use for my grow areas. An additional benefit is that it holds it's form and therefor only takes a few minutes to lay a piece on the bare floor, tape four pieces together vertically for four walls, lay a piece across the top as a ceiling, poke a hole in the top, hang a few cfls through it, tape all edges with aluminum duct tape, and presto! Air tight, light tight, fully insulated grow space, easy to modify for cords, wires, fans etc with nothing more than aluminum tape, a razor blade, and a tape measure. :)

Thank you! i'm going to relax. Going 18/6 tonight; I was just testing the timer when I got surprised by how low the temps went. I've already made a few stupid rookie mistakes so now I'm on the lookout before I stress these poor girls any more.
