Ron Paul Clueless about Foreign Policy...

Ron Paul's foreign policy: treat our global neighbors with respect. trade with them. follow the golden rule. don't bomb them if they don't bomb us.

Sounds like a great foreign policy to me.
It's the lure of isolationism. Attractive to those who don't grasp what is unfolding in the world, and America's role in it.

True, the Taliban was officially formed in 1994 by an indigenous movement. The same indigenous movement that fought the Marxist government in Kabul from 1979-1988 and continued the fight after soviet withdrawal until they gained power by killing Najibullah. Just because they give themselves a new name in 1994 makes them not the same people??? That is your logic?

If you think the United States and Saudi Arabia didn't directly and indirectly fund the Taliban, so they could become an effective political and military entity in the wake of Soviet withdrawal, then you are blatantly choosing to ignore cold fact.
You're point is that we can't trust Islamic fundamentalists, and shouldn't have tried, right?

He probably gets extra sleep in those foreign policy committee meetings... At 80 you need all the sleep you can get.

All I am pointing out is that Ron Paul incorrectly attributes us giving aid to an organization that didnt exist at the time.

I have been pretty clear about that.

And all I am pointing out is we funded aid to an indigenous movement to fight a communist government in 79-89, as well as funded an indigenous movement to continue that fight all the way to power in the 90's. That moment just so happened to get more organized and had a name by this time. Just because they weren't organized enough to have a name makes them non existent or a different people? Is that what you're saying?

Because you make it sound like the opposing rebels left shortly after the Soviets withdrew forces. No, they continued the fight for another decade and eventually became the Taliban, with our help of course. We never stopped aiding them. How does that makes Paul's statement incorrect?

That's not even close to what I said but if you choose to draw that conclusion then that's your own doing. We didn't have any conflicts with the Taliban until we invaded their country in 2001 just like the Soviets did in 1979. They still have the same message, "don't occupy our country".

Post #7 is completely god damn irrelevant to 5 pages of defending this ignorant statement below...

the Taliban did not exist.
Asking if I'm capable of reading and deferring me to post #7 as a cop-out makes you look like you posted a bunch of bullshit that you knew nothing of, got caught, and tried to get out. "oh I'm just pullin chains har har har". fuckin pathetic.

No, it is quite clearly true...

YOU CANNOT FUND A GROUP THAT DOESNT EXIST.

It might be nitpicking but I posted the reason for the thread and redirected you to it.

Dont worry, Ron Paul's foreign policy involves hiding under a blanket. He doesnt need to know anything about those "other" people....

I get it now. It makes so much sense. We should keep troops in every single country, especially middle eastern countries, cause they just love having us. It's cool, we have no shortage of young men to train and deploy. Hey while we're at it, why don't we go ahead and invade Iran too. It worked so well with all the war in the last decade, why not another decade of it....

That isn't a strawman if I'm not misrepresenting your stance. It also is not a strawman if I call you racist for the same reason but I digress, I'm not hear to teach you what a strawman is. I'm hear to call bullshit and maybe a bit of ad hominem.

The straw man was the position of leaving troops in every country and attacking Iran.

Look it up....

The connected and functional world should have a military capability in the middle east sufficient to topple thugocracies when the need arises. The fact that it has been almost all the US so far is a problem, but it does not negate the need. The Islamists are going to have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

the islamists are going to have to be dragged?? what kind of tyranny do you support?? leave them the hell alone.... so much for individual liberty, state's rights, and the right for people to govern themselves... if you don't like muslims, guess what you do... you stay out of a place full of muslims... not too hard...

You know when you are fishing and you catch one and you pull the hook out of its mouth and throw it back only to find it right back on the hook? That is one dumb fish...
