Why so Many Haters on the SOG Method??

I've been to several local hydro stores looking for supplies for my first grow. When I tell people my set up and what I'm doing for my first grow (Ebb Flow table, SOG, 4 plants per sq ft, no veg time, straight from clone to flower), they look at me like I have 2 heads. Most of the time they simply tell me no one grows like that, or I've never heard of such a thing.

On the net it seems to be thought of so highly. I wonder why there is such a discrepancy at the local level around here. What blows people's minds the most is the no VEG thing. These guys are literally telling me I will get nothing and I simply have to VEG for 10-15 days.

I'm a newb, and as such I have no place to argue with them. I've compiled my set up and will execute my sog grow mainly from information I've found researching on this forum. I hope the results are not what they are telling me they're going to be.

I did SOG for a good amount of time a couple years ago. Its def a little more work then just growing trees vertically. Due to the cutting of 35 clones every couple week and so on. But very rewarding, no just the yield but the amount of time you spend trimming is next to nothing.
Only reason i switched to growing vertically from SOG, is i love my BHO and need the LARGE amounts of trimmings hehe. And growing 6'-8' trees indoors gives me just that.

But some of the more vet growers such as Al B. Fuct grows SOG and even perfected it. Look his threads up on here very rewarding to read em.

Sounds like you're already reading some Al b. Fuct. If you aren't, study his "get a harvest every two weeks" thread. It's the gospel.
The way you've chosen will get you the highest yields per square foot of growing space with the least amount of work involved, except at cloning time.

I started out with SOG years ago, same style as you're talking about doing with flood tables and zero veg, and it really was a great system to run. The only reason I don't do it anymore is because we have a MMJ law here so I have to keep my numbers down. Now I'm doing a sort of tree of green, same concept except bigger plants, a veg room,and obviously more lights.

I also second the statement that most grow store employees are glorified tomato farmers...who were trained for years to fear the word marijuana even being whispered in their stores, so they are largely clueless and will steer you to whatever costs the most to run. Good luck and have fun =)

ive herd that the roots grow better under 18/6 for the first two weeks and then people normally switch to flower. are your roots growing good in 12/12? i am wanting to do this since i dont want to tents

My clone cabinet and my veg room are lit 24/7. Over the years I never noticed much difference between 18 and 24 hour veg light cycles, but I live in a cold northern climate so I keep mine blasting then tube the heat off of the lights back into the grow.

I love Al b fuct style I started with this style of grow and never did anything else it just make perfect sense to me, well once I started to learn how to clone and finally realize is that making mothers makes more clones I always flowerd my clones and never saved clones for mothers so I was limited of stock, so now Im making lots of mums and differnt variedy of strains so I can find that perfect indica 8 week strain that grows compact and tall and very potent I got purple erkle and super skunk now I heard that purple erkle is what im looking for (If theres any suggestions on a strain what Im looking for let me know.) I have killing fields also and its the total opposite of what Im looking for but its a good strain though.

hotstang i undertand exactly what your talkin about. even people on the internet say those things all the time like your crazy. its just common sense if you ask me. in my opinion all veg time is wasted time cause you could be using that same space to flower more plants. the only scenario where it makes sense to not do sea of green is if your scared of plant numbers for criminal reasons of if you have like 10 lights or more and taking all the clones becomes to much work.

thanks for all the words guys....it's still a curiousity as to why so many people down talk the SOG. It must be one of those things that people who have never tried it are just in love with their own way of doing something. Not going to know if you like something unless you try it huh.

And yes, I plan to do a perpetual harvest type grow. I have my 5x5 tent ready with a 1000w. I will essentialy have 8 rows of 8 6in net pots. I'm growing 45 day Power Kush. My friend said leave flower no longer than 48 days. I will start two rows (16 plants) every ten days or so on the 4x4 table. For the last two weeks I will pull those 16 and flush in a seperate 2x2 tent with a 2x2 ebb flow table as well. I'm putting the finishing touches on that room and hope to get some plants in there in the next day or two. 4 Mothers so far sitting in 4 DWC Bubble Buckets. Hope those 4 moms can give me that many cuttings, we'll see.


Anyone have any more comments from when they were a newb or anything with grow it would be good to hear. Seems to me the SOG is a no brainer.

exactly! this is the reason every single time i ask someone how much per plant they think i can get with a certain strain with no veg time, no one ever knows the answer. its always hard picking the right strains cause theres no info for this type of growing

You must have at the very least 10 foot high ceilings to have room for 8 foot tall plants, your lighting, the minimal room you need to keep between the tops of your plants and your lighting, plus the height of your pots (or whatever you grow in). That would easily eat up most or all of 10 feet. Twelve feet high or higher would make even more sense. What do you do to get adequate light to the bottom several feet of your plants, use some form of supplemental lighting?

The best strains for SOG are strains that mainly grow one large cone without a bunch of bush. From my experience anyway.

not only that you also need some stretch or else the plants stay too short and dont get enough yield per plant

For me, choosing what was available locally it was either critical mass or power kush. I was told, from my source, it is one of his faves and should never let flower past 48 days. I liked the quick turn around and that's what I went for.

The cutting will switch back to Veg mode as soon as it knows it can form roots. If you tell it its time to flower or else its gonna die (12/12 imitating fall before the winter freeze) it is going to immediately flower when it has the minimum amount of root mass to suport sexual reproduction (producing flowers since were growing females).

I rather veg for a week, even set up one week intervals between cuttings so you could have a harvest every week eventually, and take advantage of a root mass that will grow exponentially at first.

You picked your cutting for good leaves structure, might as well take advantage of it by giving them nutrients
