I'm not sure Romney has a real shot at winning this really. He's a paper tiger IMO. People just don't like him no matter how hard he tries. Eventually he's got to convince some people to actually like him or he's not going to make it. There seems to be too many "anyone but Romney" voters out there. Once the field dwindles down to 2-3 candidates, Romney is in real trouble. If someone like Santorum can convince people he has a reasonable chance at beating Obama, it's game over. Right now the only reason he's polling on top is because people think he is the best shot at beating Obama and the "anyone but Romney" voters are split between several candidates. When the field thins out a bit, if some other candidate can make a strong case for being able to beat Obama, Romney will be out of this.

Santorum wins the nomination IMO. Every other candidate has fatal flaws. Although maybe Santorum has some unexposed weaknesses too.
the santorum sweep last night made me think of this.

santorum comes off as genuine, blue collar, and conservative. watch out if he gets any money.

Santorum would be worse than Bush 43, if you can imagine that. Almost as bad as a Cheney would be.

Bush and Cheney are both just typical GOP pundits, just like Romney and the Newt! SANITARIUM is nothing but the hard religious right..... Out of wedlock sex = BAD, Gay = BAD, Drugs = BAD and anything other then paying your 20% to the church = BAD!

25 years voting GOP and no way in HELL would I vote to put this country in a SANITARIUM!

i will disagree with the people talking bad about santorum. i see him as one of the most reasonable choices they could make. remember, he will not be a dictator, he will have to work with a congress that would never allow his jesus-sharia laws through.

i think his views are horribly misguided, but i think he is genuine about what he says and really does care about some of the blue collar folk that are hurting, even us godless liberals.

santorum democrats, anyone?

Unless RP wins the nomination (most likely will not happen) and wins the presidency, we ARE GOING TO GET THE SAME THING no matter who wins.

Not even sure I can call myself a Republican any more! Sure they fit my views on guns, entitlements, fiscal conservatism and border control... But they miss the point on the state rights, smaller Fed govt, gay rights, the drug war and even allowing hard working illegals who ARE here a right to stay once the border is secure!

Right now Santorum's biggest problem is Newt is still in the race. If Newt drops out Romney will be in real trouble. Then all the "anyone but Romney" voters will all go to Santorum.

Santorum just had his best fundraising night ever. This could be the point where Newt falls back into irrelevancy.

Of course it doesn't really matter. I'm 100% convinced that none of the republicans in the race can beat Obama anymore. The republicans have completely lost touch with reality.

I don't follow. Santorum is bat shit nuts. This is what he has to say about global warming, "an excuse for more government control of your life."

Then he says, he doesn't believe in a right to privacy.

This fails basic logic. You can't be for government defining lifestyle choices and against government control. That's government controling life. He's the 1984 candidate. That scares me to death.

don't get me wrong, there are about a million things wrong with him as well as a smattering of views i agree with, but the ones we agree on are often important ones for me. and when pressed enough, he often leaks little bits of info that lead me to believe he's putting on the religious neocon as a complete act for political gain, rather than what he truly believes. although you never know.

i agree with the guy on some important stuff...

While in Congress, Santorum supported efforts to fight global AIDS, provide assistance to orphans and vulnerable children in developing countries, combat genocide in Sudan, and offer third world debt relief. In 2006, rock musician and humanitarian Bono said of Santorum, "he has been a defender of the most vulnerable."[SUP][141][/SUP][SUP][142][/SUP] On the domestic front, Santorum supported home ownership tax credits, savings accounts for children, rewarding savings by low-income families, funding autism research, fighting tuberculosis, and providing housing for people with AIDS. He supported increased funding for Social Services Block Grants and organizations like Healthy Start and the Children’s Aid Society, and financing community health centers.[SUP][141][/SUP]

and when pressed on evolution, it seems like he might accept the theory and is just grandstanding and pandering publicly...

Santorum added a provision to the 2001 No Child Left Behind bill that would have promoted questioning of the theory of evolution in public school science classes and required the teaching of intelligent design along with evolution.[SUP][32][/SUP][SUP][33][/SUP] The bill, with the Santorum Amendment included, passed the Senate 91-8[SUP][32][/SUP][SUP][34][/SUP] and was hailed as a victory by intelligent design theory promoters.[SUP][35][/SUP][SUP][36][/SUP][SUP][37][/SUP][SUP][38][/SUP]Before the bill became law, however, scientific and educational groups successfully urged the conference committee for the bill to strike the Santorum Amendment from the final bill. Intelligent design supporters in Congress then preserved the language of the Santorum Amendment in the conference committee report of the legislative history of the bill.[SUP][35][/SUP][SUP][36][/SUP][SUP][37][/SUP][SUP][38][/SUP][SUP][39][/SUP] The Discovery Institute and other intelligent design proponents have repeatedly invoked this report as proof that Congress intended that the teaching of intelligent design should be required in public school science classes.[SUP][40][/SUP][SUP][41][/SUP]
In 2002, Santorum called intelligent design "a legitimate scientific theory that should be taught in science classes."[SUP][42][/SUP] By 2005, though, he had adopted the Teach the Controversyapproach.[SUP][43][/SUP][SUP][44][/SUP] He told National Public Radio, "I'm not comfortable with intelligent design being taught in the science classroom. What we should be teaching are the problems and holes ... in the theory of evolution."[SUP][45][/SUP] Later that year, Santorum resigned from the advisory board of the Christian-rights Thomas More Law Center after the Center's lawyers lost a case representing a school board that had required the teaching of intelligent design.[SUP][46][/SUP] Santorum, who had previously supported the school board's policy indicated he had not realized that certain members of the board had been motivated by religious beliefs.[SUP][46][/SUP] Santorum critics claimed he was backtracking from his earlier position because he was facing a tough reelection fight for 2006.[SUP][46][/SUP] When asked in November 2011 about his views on evolution, Santorum stated that he believes that evolution occurred on a tiny, micro level.[SUP][47][/SUP]
and just about everything else about him is putrid. i believe he is a religious nut and really does feel virulently anti-gay, a war hawk who would use force with iran before diplomacy, a total setback to women's rights and feminism in general, etc...but he would have to get that through congress, and i don't see his social policies ever passing in our socially-progressive nation.

i'm just saying that unlike romney, paul, or gingrich, i could possibly relate to santorum in the slightest bit because i know people like him.

I really hope Romney wins. It will be a wake up call for republicans. I just hope republicans find a replacement in 2016. Democrats will also have a wake up call, that heir changey hopey bullshit pisses everyone off so much, they forced Uncle Pennybags to become president.

i really hope santorum wins. i just really do not like romney. like a majority of americans, the more i see, the less i like (i really am quoting a poll taken that says 52% of those polled liked romney less as they learned more about him).

edit: also, romney's favorability rating is about 30% and dropping like a stone.

I really hate Romney too. Probably more than you do. But if Obama gets in again, he proves we're stupid. Santorum is a paranoid version of a Bush. He'd get a following. So neither Obama nor Santorum would change things. Rommey will get no following. He's our only hope for causing a revolution. We're being duped and it's time we stood up for ourselves.

SCOTUS picks, my friend.

i prefer the more liberal SCOTUS picks that obama would appoint over the ones romney or santorum would appoint.

since this is the "post predictions thread", i will say this: romney wins. santorum and gingrich win states here and there, perhaps enough for a brokered convention (small chance). hail mary: brokered convention goes to new candidate who loses easily (even chris cristie).

this is looking bad for the repubs. there are less than 280 days to the election and more and more are going to be focused on cannibalizing each other and deciding who to back.
