Cloning - WTF

OK - i posted this in the General forum as well, but wanted to also here from Zonies who are in the exact same climate - any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello Team, here is the backstory.

My first two attempts at cloning went VERY well 90% success rate. However once winter set-in here in Arizona my success rate has dropped to under 20%! Does an ambient evening temperature in the 60's significantly slow root development?

The clones themselves look GREAT - really green and healthy, but again it has been 9 days and nothing is popping through the rockwool.

For the record here is my set-up:
  • Homemade 7-Site Bubble Cloner
  • Rockwool
  • Cloning Powder
  • PH'd Water
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks - jj

Are you using a dome? Warmth is very crucial to cloning, id recommend a small heating pad set to low to bring that temp up.

First time I cloned I had 100% success rate. Dixie cups full of sand in a beer box with suran wrap over it under a 400 watt. if you have real cloner then you beat what I had. 80 degrees contstant is best. Get a heat mat under the cloner Also gel works way better than powder. Clonex and root tech are the best IMO. Clonex has 3x as much of the active ingredient though. When I use 1 inch cubes I usually get root in a week. If I use 2 inch cubes it usually takes 10-14 days however if the plant looks good then they're likely on their way

like people said warmer, but also u have to take in to account some stains are harder to clone some take longer to root, and if you have had mother plants over years like i have the cloning will sometimes slow compared to earlier batches. ive personally had a clone that took 21 days. hope this helps ------good luck hope u have mad lil babies soon :)

True that I always have a bitch of a time trying to get OG strains to clone.

Just curious, why use a Bible cloned and rockwool? Rockwool retains moisture well and therefore you don't need the bubbled and vice versa the bubbled constantly supplies the cuttings with water, negating your need for the rockwool when using the bubbler.

But like others said a heat mat will help, but I never use mine anymore and I use just rockwool tray and dome. Since you are using the bubbler, cold temps will affect you more because water changes temp very easily Ans us therefore more suceptable to temp swings.

I dumped the EZCLONER & went to rapid rooters with a dome. My success rate went from zero to over 90%. Could never get the ezcloner(30) temps down enough to work. Just put the cutting in the rooter cube with a dab of your favorite, add dome, keep warm & moist until MAJOR roots appear. Solved my weeks of worry with no results.

Those ezcloners are bad ass dude, bummer it didnt work for you I would buy one but not for the price they sell them. Its too easy to make a aero cloner at home.

OK - so you think i could drop the rockwool and let the stems hang bare above the aerated water?

yes, so long a bubbles are getting the bottom of the cuttings wet. i like to use rockwool i always have 100% root growth and all i use is a dome, tray, rockwool, a scalpel and rooting gel.
