i think it would kinda be like whacking your dick with a hammer to buy 2 dual spectrum bulbs (ya know not really a smart idea), i dont really know alot about this shit but if you just got a reg MH and a reg HPS you would then have 1200W of dual spectrum light providing you have 2 600w ballasts)... and most systems come with both bulbs.

i would be parting out not getting a kit. yeah that was my next question, do i need two dual spectrums if i could do one of each instead...cheaper to go one of each thats for sure...

Will do! I have some small ones about a week old from some bag seed before I had the proper supplies. And im currently germing some liberty haze for the real grow. This time I'm prepared! Proper lighting will be arriving tomorrow, I kind of committed myself to CFL's already *groan* I'll toss some details up soon.

hey man there is nothing wrong with CFL growing as long as you read up and do it right. the biggest problem is people getting 2x 13w CFL thinking they are going to grow a 4ft plant.......if you set it up right you can have a great grow

I agree. I am just a little stressed because it seems everyone starts off with CFL's and then theyre left playing catch-up.

I'll be starting off with 2 fixtures and 8 bulbs for germing. (6x 42watts/6500k & 2x 42 watts/2700k) Then I'll be adding 2 more fixtures for 4 total later on. Hopefully that will be enough.

Anyway, I dont want to jack rad's thread anymore than I have to. Lights should be arriving today and as soon as I get them set up I'll snap some photos and hopefully toss a thread up concerning my grow. I'm super excited!

please do! lol...i went through all those same thoughts just a few months ago...the 42watters were a lil too expensive in my thought process. the 23 watters came in 4packs, one for each of my 4 fixtures...

meh he is cool and your not jacking his thread (least in my opinion)

as far as CFL goes, you will find yourself putting the money together for a HID after a couple months or you will be content it all depends on what you want out of your grow. Me personally i dont even smoke that much, this is a hobby for me and i want to grow the biggest and best buds around. i have tried some of the local homegrown and i know i can do better, i want to raise the standards around my area. sick of paying top dollar for shwag weed.

if your growing just to get some affordable smoke and its not so much as a hobby for you as a means of getting smoke without having to buy it locally then you may be perfectly content with the CFL, there really is not anything wrong with them except they dont have great penetration. BUT.....the great thing about CFL is you can place them where you need to to get light to all areas of your plants opposed to just having 1 HID light above.

through my personal experience i think that getting your hands on some primo genetics is more important than wether you use HID or CFL, and as long as you have sufficient lighting you will grow some great weed :)

I guess my main reason for growing is for hobby. At some point or another I always end up diving headfirst into whatever im currently most interested in. Whether it be baseball cards, comic books, breeding snakes or growing some primo ganja. I have been smoking for a long time, Closing in on 20 years or so... And I smoke a lot, but I have never ever tried growing my own before, So being able to offset the cost of buying my own is just a bonus. I'm mainly interested in the actually growing and the unique strains.

I just hope I have the green thumb for it. I tried growing tomatoes a few years ago and it was a fucking disaster. lol.

At some point I plan on using HID but I already had a bunch of equipment from my snake breeding days (clamp lamps, UVA/UVB bulbs, reflective tape) that I was able to use so I started with all that to offset the start up costs... That's what made me go with the CFL's at first. I had a lot of receptacles.

Anyway, UPS just dropped off my lightning equipment. They didnt send me my Y splitters so it Looks like the little guys are going with just 2 42w cfl's for the time being. I'm gonna go get that set up, snap some photos and start my thread.

lol sounds good bro! stoked to have another join this lil cfl clan! lol. you can get those y splitters 2 bucks apiece from home depot...thats where i got EVERYTHING. lol. sometimes i get some weird looks, but its kinda fun. i have my explanation handy "i custom build light rigs for my giant aquarium" works like a charm!

i mirror your diving in head first to every project i find fascinating. why i love computers and programming so much. and now this. :-D either way, 2 42 watt cfls is fine until like the 2nd or 3rd week...keep them CLOSE tho and monitor temps n humidity

Yeah, I remembered them as an afterthought and was just plain lazy and decided to order them online. They were $1.67 a pop. I bought 12, Shipping was an extra 4 or 5 dollars so I'm happy with that.

If anyone ever asks what your supplies are for just stop and stare at them. Say nothing, no matter what. Eventually they get jittery and ignore you. lol

My little guys (girls!) are as set up as they can be for the time being. I made a thread so everyone can keep me in check and not allow me to do stupid things. heh. I'm already having some temp issues as they're getting real hot. I'm trying to remedy the situation right now...
