Light and eye damage

I think you're missing the point. You can't see or feel the damage being done but there's been a lot written about the cumulative skin and eye damage from the UV and IR from HID bulbs. Even some the manufacturers of these bulbs place warnings on their websites. Baseball caps may be of some help but I'm guessing not too much compared to long sleeves and good glasses. I guess it's similar to the sun........not much will show up as a teenager or young adult, but when you're in you 50's and 60's, it may be a different story. Fair skinned people probably have more to worry about than darker skinned growers too. Remember, it's proven to be cumulative and the issues compound as we get older.
Never heard of it. Granted haven't checked for writups on websites about it. Sure, I and a few others I know may be some exception to the rule but I'm 54 and my friends are about the same age. All of us veteran growers who have spent our fair share of time (since our early 20s) in our grow rooms and neither of us have had or heard anything of the sort occur.

Perhaps the real point everyone's missing is that being in your grow room is no different than being outside on a hot summer day?

Well, I'm 55 and I haven't seen any issues yet either except maybe a few moles, skin tags, cataracts, skin cancer, age spots, melancytes, solar lentigines, poikiloderma, mottled and reddish appearance and some uneven pigmentation. The damage is cumulative and most of us will experience some of these in our 60's and 70's. I'm guessing the reason most of us haven't heard much about it is cause doctors regularly attribute these kinds of damages to the sun, not grow lights since they aren't aware your growing. Also, it takes many years and we're probably still too young for most of them. Give it some more time........ and report back when your old and grey. LOL

So, i bought Method Seven protective glasses. Let me tell you, it was well worth the $70 buy (guy discounted it to $35 because I bought some other stuff in the store). My eyes feel back to normal and are no longer twitchy and it isn't hard to focus in well-lit areas.

Thanks again for the feedback, I'll be thanking you when I can still see in 30 years.

I don't think they are the same ones........ still listed as $200 on their website. Nothing else for sale either so ??????????????.

I just befriended someone at a hydro store and he said he didn't want them so he gave them to me for cheap. Got realy lucky I guess, but they're branded with 'Method Seven:The Resistance'

glass's for sure i got uvb bulbs so i need them. and the staring in lights the past few years has defiantly fucked up my night vision my vision has gotten better now that i wear sunglasses. YEP regular ol' sunglasses 100% uvb protected and tinted. im pretty sure it doesnt matter what brand you buy. the IR is what off the charts in the grow room UV is a maybe a pretty average sunny day and no uvb unless you add it. . it the bright light fucckin your eyes up its the IR burning them IR transfers energy directly to what it touches. a barrier between your eyes and the light is all you need.

and i only recently became a believer in sunglasses
