and the best part of it is, everyone is out buying these things to impress everyone else.

but at the same time the people that this person is trying to impress, are too busy out buying things to impress other people.
so at the end of the day nobody is going to notice, and nobody is going to care.


it's an endless consuming cycle, and business loves that shit.

i don't see it as a conflict, or a need to be witty...
being assertive is what you owe yourself imo everyone is entitled to be respected and left alone .. not have their personal space invaded or negative comments made by strangers, its just not on
it obviously had some effect on you , or you wouldn't of made a thread about it,
if you had been assertive when the situation occurred i think it would of been laid to rest at that moment .. just a thought

it wasn't really meant to be a "venting" thread though, it was to start a conversation on how some people see things.
i think people read it the wrong way, she didn't say this in an abrasive way... i didn't feel threatened.

there was no reason for me to be assertive towards a woman at a grocery store over a little comment. i'm a human, not an animal.

Thank you! For me, chemistry is a matter of inclination ... one that had a lot of people look at me like a mutant. Do NOT ask me to be smart/knowledgeable about pop culture however. If Jeopardy! only had school-type trivia questions and not entertainment industry stuff, I'd be good at it. So it's win some; lose some ... cn

well apparently this is frowned upon, because some older woman in front of me at the check out line decided to comment on my clothing. she said it makes me look like i'm a lazy person and i should wear appropriate clothing when i go out in public. she also said wearing a hat makes me look like i'm hiding something or hiding from someone... where do people come up with this shit?

i don't know about your area but when i go shopping i always see people wearing sweatpants and girls with their hair tied back, looking like a hot mess.
but that doesn't bother me, i don't give a shit what people wear at the grocery store or anywhere for that matter.

strange experience either way, but i hate social situations so it's not like i was going to argue with this woman at the check out line. it was pretty weird though.
