I find when French people know you they are lovely and try not to hurt anyone's feelings more than English people unless tipped over the edge. Strangers aren't so warm (more like English people), like to keep themselves to themselves and don't seem to like it when things are out of place... They appear disgusted if you do not speak French, which is fair enough. Well, that's what it was like in Normandy anyway. Maybe they were just cranky from the weather.

i found italians to be the same way towards people who didn't speak italian.. my gf and i were on a train going to venice and the chic pushing the lil food cart stopped at the seats in front of ours, sold them some stuff, walked right by us and didn't even look at us, than stopped at the next set of seats located behind us... i was rather pissed as i was hungry, and i think coke sounds like coke, whether in english or italian.. :(

I don't blame them (those in mainland Europe) because the majority of them speak English. English kids are supposed to learn a modern foreign language but alot don't... I had to do alot of translating, which made me sympathize with the poor French people being hassled and asked questions. I think it;s a matter of courtesy to try and learn some of the language if you decide to go somewhere. Language isn't just a tool to get what you want, it is part of a 'feel' and a culture. Plus you can understand if people are bitching about you lol. Alot of German speakers in Amsterdam and Frech speakers in my connection in Brussels. It made my time far more fun.

Kind of mean for them to just blank you like that though... *cuddle*

Are we any different? English as an official language? Discrimination against Spanish speaking folks. Santorum telling the entire population of Puerto Rico (American citizens) that they would have to abandon Spanish if they wanted to be "official" Americans. Native Americans punished for speaking their own language. The list goes on. People are people. We're all xenophobic to one degree or another.

Many similar experiences in Paris-- ignored, refused service, wrong directions. . . felt pretty despised for being American. Pretty much put me off of ever going overseas again-- Such a shame too. I loved all of the art and architecture --but it's no fun to visit when you clearly are not wanted. . .

i'm gonna have to agree with kuroi. if you're going to a foreign country, learn at least the basics of their language.

ever have someone speaking incomprehensible english come up to you and ask for something?
yeah sorry buddy, but i don't understand what the fuck you are saying.

i have no problem with expecting people in america to speak english though carne. when i was in spain, all of the signs were in what language?? wanna take a guess?? that's right, spanish, as they should be.. why is it when i go to home depot near my house, the in and out signs are in both english and spanish?? is this not america, where we speak english?? i'm so not a racist, but i have to admit that bugs the fuck out of me honestly...

i would love to learn a second language though, only for the fact that i love to travel, and hate to feel like the typical american who only speaks english, while it seems that most eupopeans speak multi languages..
i think that has more to do with the way europe is laid out, and the fact that there are many smaller countries in a small area.. it would be like your leaving the new mexico part of the four corners and going to say another states part of it, and having to speak a different language..

i've been all over europe, and so far italy was the only place i felt like i was put down for being an american.. most other countries the people went way out of their way to help me and most of the people spoke english as well as what ever language was correct for their country.. christ, in germany, i heard more english than i did german for the most part..

If you want to be a US citizen you gotta speak English fluently. :) Not really that hard to understand.

But anyways, French people are faggots, always sucking on faggots. It's pure faggotry I tell you. :p

I'm not quite sure what your point is in regards to my post. I was saying that we're no different than any other culture. We have our xenophobic issues as well. I travel to a different nation almost every day. The Navajo Nation. I speak the language. I know enough Hopi to get by and I can cuss up a storm in Zuni. My point was, why look down on others about the very things we do ourselves.

Yea, well that's a silly thing to say. They sure like our tourist dollars though right...

Sorry we don't riot in the streets burning down cities because we actually have a 5 day work week *gasp*! And have to work until we're of real retirement age for our benefits.

What a joke.....maybe you're one of those people rude to us?

I've traveled all over Europe, and had few bad experiences. Remember how hard it is when you're somewhere new to you, and there are no signs you can read in train stations and other need to know info. It can be stressful.

Keep spending our tourist dollars though.......none of those countries could exist without us.....the US. Don't forget it.

Wow... Cause none of those countries existed before America right..? dickhead
Since when is this place where people go to spread hatred against the US?

Whatever

You really don't expect push back by people like me for bad mouthing my Country? All 4 of my Grandparents came HERE for a better life on a boat....And they found it.

I hate French Canadians.
I hate to reply to these kind of messages (since this person has no manners hehe) but I'd like to know why? I don't think you have one but yeah...
And since you hate us so much, for no apparent reason other than we speak a different (main) language than yours...what does French Frog means? I know it's an insult of some kind but I don't get where it comes from...

To answer the question, I'm French Canadian...I try to always be polite and a gentleman but I'm afraid that it's like anything else, there are assholes everywhere, white, black, french, english...it doesn't matter where your from, your skin color or the language you speak...
Also I think all the people who "hate French people" are stupid, yes that's right...RACIST FUCKERS!

on another note...some French people from France can really be dicks, I dislike them but I don't HATE them...just like I don't hate Americans, I dislike a big part of them but love the other part...
