Is marijuana addictive?

I don't personally think it is as in the body goes through withdrawals if you don't have any....but what about psychologically? I know I have an overall better attitude if I know I've got some bud around. What do ya'll think?

Anything can be psychologically addicting. Including cannabis.
I should add that it depends on the person. But to deny that's it's psychologically addicting would be retarded. ANYTHING can be psychologically addicting. Sex, video games, TV, working out, etc...

It just depends on the individual. It depends on what they're using it for. Most people use it for recreation or for medicinal purposes. Some people use it to escape or self-medicate. Usually those are the ones who have addiction issues and tend to use other types of self-medication to their detriment.

It was much more psychologically addictive for me when I was younger and had no life.Today, I have a lot of work/family things to focus on to distract from being occasionally dry and, hey, being a grower for a long time has taught me a lot about delayed gratification.

Its no more adictive than any other hobbie a person adopts, like fishing, hunting or fucking all those you want
to continue doing right!

I hadn't smoked marijuana in about 37 or so years. I decided to try it to help with chronic pain. It's allowed me to throttle back my morphine by 2/3rds.

Here's the hitch. If I stop smoking marijuana by the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] day I'm showing opiate withdrawal symptoms. 1 puff and the opiate withdrawals, piloerection, increased peristalsis, restless leg, runny nose all stop. Marijuana potentiates the cytochrome p450 system and is synergistic with opiates. So now I am physically dependent upon marijuana if I want the opiate withdrawals kept at bay as the far reduced dose.

So no marijuana itself is not physically addictive but it can potentiate opiates and create psychological habituation.

Chilling out is pretty awesome. If thats all you want to do in life then you smoke a lot of pot. If you can acnowledge relaxation as a reward to follow (not a lifestyle) then you can control it... At times of heavy smoking its not easy to think of things to do, so you need to adjust the input of THC like a throttle. Allowing your mind to think :D

I have a harder time staying off caffeine then I do pot. I do feel a bit cranky when I don't smoke pot. But that isn't very harmful. When ever I drink caffeine and then stop drinking it I get headaches. That to me is worse then marijuana.

coming from someone who's a total addict, through and through, i don't think weed is addictive what so ever.. i've been smoking for over 20 years and can quit at anytime, j/k, lol... but seriously, i've been addicted to everything from cocaine to heroin and probably everything in between, but have just celebrated 11 years clean from them all a few weeks ago.. :)

i just had to stop smoking for a month for a physical and a ua i have yearly, and i was fine not smoking.. the first few days i thought about smoking a lot, but after that i was fine and the thoughts pretty much left me..
i was once in a rehab, and if you got into trouble, they'd put you on a coffee, tea and soda ban.. i don't drink coffee, nor much soda, but no ice tea for meals was effin brutal.. horrible headaches and irritability in spades.. one of the worse common addictions i have dealt with, and way worse then anything i've seen from quitting weed..

I agree a/b the caffeine issue for sure. I recently went a/b 6 months without pot. I felt like a rich dimension of my life was missing as I feel when I'm able to light up, my psyche is freed and ideas start flowing as do realizations a/b me and my life. I know I can live without it if I had to, but I don't want to. Alcohol on the other hand, makes me feel like shit so I could live without it forever and never look back.

And Racerboy...congrats on 11 years! That's no small thing.
