A simple but effective grow room. Help!

I am really looking for a way to modify a grow room (one room about 5 ft by 5 ft) to grow atleast 6 plants (hopefully I assume I can just keep all 6 under my 400w hps (let me know if I'm wrong) and I will be able to keep them all on the same light cycle throughout. Cloning is out of reach as far as skill level for me I think, so I'll just stick with seeds. I'm growing in soil by the way, fox farm ocean forest. using their nutes as well. Anyways here is what I've got: I have two inline duct fans with two aluminum 25 ft ducts for intake outtake A 400 watt hps light and ballast like 4 fans for air circulation and all that b.s 8 small 6 inch pots-8 pots that are about 6 inch around and a foot deep. and then eight 5 gal buckets. I am growing two blueberry kush right now and they're doing fine, but once these are harvested i'm getting different seeds and I'm looking to build the most effective grow room I can with the space I have (I have about 8 ft of height by the way. So if I need better things or just anything that will help improve my setup is appreciated! yes I am on my first grow and I have learned alot from it so I'm looking to make my next even more successful!

as a suggestion,,if you have 8 feet to play with in height, have you ever thot of splitting in half by making a shelf ,,end up with 2 rooms,,,,i like growing my plants small,and this way i get twice the plants in same space...

sorry if i sound stupid but wouldn't I need another light? and I'm honestly not really sure how to keep them small. good idea though nonetheless, i'm thinking about switching to LEDs

fuck led.........youll get good results from your 400. the most important thing is constucting a good way to raise and lower your light. ill tell you from experiece, if you half ass that step, you'll be cursing yourself for it later. monitoring temps is also important when using an HPS. good luck dewd, always ask questions!

Yeah I actually just decided against led. lol but for the grow i have going now I have a pulley screwed into the ceiling with rope tied and that seems to be working well so when I move and begin my next grow I will probably do something along those lines again. And I guess intake outtake and fans is enough? If not I need to be informed on what is needed lol. I'm getting a carbon filter soon and I hope that will help with odor. Thanks for the advice!

yes i do. bigger is always better but i think 400 will do. i managed four under a 250, it wasn't the best but it worked. the shorter your ducting, the better your fans will work. so try to avoid excessive bends and weird angles. i would angle some fans underneath your plants to help keep the hot air up in the area your exhaust is.

ya i would fuck the led and stick with your 400 for sure,,,,and my method was just a suggestion for a room,,,yes you would need another lite, like break it down to 2- 250's,,,keeping your plants small is easy and effective way to get more bud in smaller rooms,and in shorter time.

yes I am definetely gonna look into a shelf for two...I will have much info on my current grow and next grow soon if you'd liek to keep up on it! not so sure about pictures though I'm still pretty sketched out about talking about this on the internet lol..

Mine's a little 4x4 area that's 6.5 feet high and it's just my little veg room with a 400 watt MH. I wish I had 600 because I like to just veg out a few plants and flower them. A 400 watt will definitely be enough for 6 plants, however if you have a tall enough room you might consider having 4 plants in larger pots. This way there's less plants competing for the light and they have a larger root mass, but that's just my preference. As everyone else has said, more light is always better (with proper ventilation of course) but a 400 watt will be perfect.

What will definitely help for not only ventilation but temp control is to get yourself a little window AC and connect a duct from it to the box. This way you can not only maintained constant temps with a solid intake/outtake system but you'll be able to bring your HID lights pretty close to your girls without consequence. They're very expensive new but if you get one used you can find them for like $40-50 bucks, well worth the money. As long as you're maintaining good ventilation and constant temps that the girls like you'll be fine, your set up sounds good.

Good luck friend, keep doing your research and asking questions but nothing will ever be better than experience so just keep at it and with persistence and hard work you'll get it!

a carbon filter do sounds like a good idea tho

fist few weeks was ok .. did only smell a littel .. but after 6 weeks mine (2 kush plants) did smell A LOT !!! (like realy bad male cat piss)
and they was`t even flowering ... so make sure you have a nice ventilation with a carbon filter on .. boath for odour and temps./fresh air/Co2

I had slightly problems with heat "84-86F"

(runn a 600W HPS without cool tube in a 7x3 feet room .. also 8 feet to seailing)

dont have AC or anyway to mount one ..
but got nice temps outside and have a passiv intake over my window .. so mountet some tubes and a small fan (half the power as the out take) for some fresh/cool air .. and it works pretty well (80-82F)

ooh yea .. incase you did wonder .. afer I got my filter/ventilation the odour was more or less gone after ½ a hour .. after two I couldnt smell anything atall .. best buy .. as importent as the light ..

and sure 400W is good .. but if you could get a 600W for allmost the same ammount I would go for it .. for 6 plants .. specialy if your plan on buying one with a cooltube (may I suggest you do .. I did`t )

if you got good hight (and dont want to build a shelf) you could go with high plants ..stavia maybe .. then a 600W would be great .. as the lights can penetrait furter ...

just dont know if the ventilation you have is big enough for your space/600W HPS .. how much CFM/M3 is it on ?
