Update, i ended up with a lil over 7 off the 1 plant. Which is not bad. But if if u figure a lil over 300w used, got 7 so far with 2 more still in tray under same light the ratio comes out pretty good.

i just added a 216 watt t5 to my flower room to supplement the 400w HID

they are nice lights. much more evenly distributed than any hid

Just heard from UVL. The 660 will retail @ $19.95.

I have been running 1/8. I would like to see whether 2/8 is better, but that's a test for another grow. In the mean time I have increased the number of floodings per hour and today increased ppms from ~ 1000-1200. I am pretty sure this strain will love the additional ppms. Aslo am now flooding every 15 minutes during lights on. You should come take a look at how I am pushing the envelope

I've been using T5's now for a year and quite pleased with them, I have a small grow space so I have a 2ft 2 bulb, I can grow 4 indicas giving me enough to smoke. Years ago I used MH and HPS and my elect bill shot through the roof, I'm surprised no one caught on.

Have you considered PL-L/Biax/2g11 type lights instead? You can get much more lumens for your area with the same number of bulbs.

This is from my Multi spectrum grow. The idea here is that you bud and flower under the same light.

So you only have to change the timer from 20/4 to 12/12. All the light they need in both vegging and flowering is here.

I used a flood table and the full grow journal can be found im sig. (total grow stats first entry)

Thought I would repost this as my plants have been getting ample 630 from 1 UVL Aquasun + 2 ZooMed florosuns + 3 UVL Red Lifes. Additionally I have 1/8 UVL 660 + 1 Coral Wave:

This is from an led discussion, but the spectral needs are the same no matter the lighting choice:

Couple that with strong white light (green-response chlorophyll extending throughout and deep into leaf structures, with a net effect at or near that of the (mostly) surface-level blue and reds), which also takes care of most of the ~660nm+ you actually need for photomorphogenesis - and you can get by with 630nm reds just fine.

(i.e. 630nm red is ~95% of the PSR of 660nm, AND they currently still have ~20-30% greater radiometric efficiency - as well as being cheaper than the deep reds - so there's more 'bang for the buck'):

Apparently true for T5s too. The 660 MSRP being ~ 1/3 more expensive than the Red Life

Grrr.. I've been perving out on those lights for weeks now. Wish I could afford a Pro 420 PAR.

The differences are basically irrelevant IMO/get which one is cheaper.............rememeber to get two smaller panels instead of one larger unit if the space allows it.....good luck

Haha yea like 600$ for that light, but the people ive talked too about those lights had no complaints what so ever, said they ran cooler than the T5s and had better canopy deppth

Bleh. I was really hoping to go with a single 4' 8 bulb simply because it would cost less for the initial setup and specialty bulbs. If I have to buy 2 2' setups and specialty bulbs for both I might as well just go with a 400w HID as the price would be about the same. Basically I'm right back to square one. I just really need to make a decision as I've been researching and price comparing for 3 weeks now and have yet to decide on anything. At this rate I'll be old and sickly before I crack my first seed. lol

I'm hoping to cap out the cost around $500 or less if I can. I can get a 400w HID and an inline fan/filter combo for about that price. The room that I will be growing in stays about 65 degrees. The only real issue I have with buying a HID is the rise in my electric bill. I so totally want to just drop an extra $100 and get one of those damn induction lights! lol

Sorry. Maybe I typed that out wrong? What I meant was that I wanted to initially get a 4' @8 bulb but the prevailing wisdom on the boards say to get 2 of the 2' @8 bulbs for ease of tilting/adjustability - which makes sense, I suppose. The problem with getting two of the 2' @8 bulbs is that it would cost double the amount of a single 4' @8 bulb, not to mention the added cost of additional specialty bulbs. I was aiming for an 8 bulb setup because the tent is 5x4x2 and I didn't know if a 4 or 6 bulb setup would give me enough coverage (a single 4' @8 would fit in there perfectly), but 16 bulbs in total is a bit more expensive than I had hoped but still fits within my cash limit. My biggest issue with having that many bulbs is the same reason I decided against CFLs; I just really and truly do not want to have to deal with dozens of lights.

Anyway, I dunno if any of my inane babbling makes any sense. I'm stoned and confused and having a blonde moment.. and I really want a popsicle. Look over me.

For 500$ you could buy a tent a fan filter combo all your ducting a 250w hps with air cooled hood and not burn a whole in your pocket with electric that's what I would do if I had 500

Would a 250w hps provide adequate coverage for a decent grow in the 5x4x2 tent I already have? I've been told I'd need a 400w or 600w for a tent that size.

Oh I forgot you have a tent so 500 is good enough to get a 400w fan and ducting, look into the dimmable ballast you will burn through bulbs a tat faster with a dimmable but if a 400w is too Hott you can dim it down and you have control of how much light
