flowering/ light question

OK I was told today that I should not have complete darkness during my lights out time. I have been trying to flip my light cycle from on in the day to on at night. so I have been running a 26 hour day 12on/14off. I didn't want to go lights out for 24 hours so this is what I decided to do. made sense to me anyways. and while explaining this a guy told me that it shouldnt be totally dark is there any merit to this or should I change what I am doing........

12/12light cycle in a 24 hour period
No light leak is preferred. A tiny bit of light leak won't hurt

If you want to flip your light cycle just do it in one shot, but lengthen the dark period to do it. I've found it better just to do that than stagger like you're talking about. Kinda like pulling off a bandage.

I was wondering about that. I thought I would stagger till it was at least half way though the flip then I would go dark the rest of the way all at once. so it wouldn't be so long in the dark.
right now I have to turn my lights out at midnight and back on at noon. my desired time for lights on is on at 10pm and off at 10 am. so the extra 10 hours of dark tomorrow would be ok?

never let any light in during the dark cycle..NEVER! It will screw up flowering and possibly cause your plants to hermie. Whoever told you that doesn't know jack about growing mary j.
