Welfare does not just feed the poor. It feeds the middle class too, we need someone to sell our services and goods to. It also, paradoxically, creates more tax revenue. I personally would rather see the government tax progressively and spend the tax money at home, than to see it secretly tax through inflation while promising lower taxes and use the money to export violence. The economy thrives under tax and spend liberal policy. It is working, we are emerging from the depths of Dubya's policies.
Somehow the Sheriff of Nottingham has convinced some of you that Robin Hood has come to rob the poor. No, the Bush tax cuts were welfare for the super-rich, and alas, they are gone now, taxes will pay for the stimulus. Trickle down economics are past. People are buying things.
