Well cmon, it's obvious neither one of you know your ass from the hole in the ground when it comes to investments and taxes.
I've written off capital losses before. It adjusted my taxable amount, not the tax itself (except as proportioned through the margin). So how is that a fail? cn

i know the difference between $50 and $77,731.00, unlike some people here.
I think we all know the difference between $77K and $50, you're just having a hard time distinguishing the difference between a loss and a deduction, common mistake from people that have never had to deal with neither on the same return!

At least you're civil, I appreciate it.
Well first off, you're mixing up the write off with a marginal rate, you don't get the same percentage of write off as your marginal rate. Second, Mitt has been hammered for the last year about the 14% effective rate he pays on his capital gains and you have him getting a deduction at a marginal rate of 20-30%, the cap rate on capital gains is 15%. Third, the maximum capital loss you can write in a single year is $3k.

No need for personal attacks.
You mad bro, or are you embarrassed and pissed off because the Brits couldn't even run proper security at a sporting event, perhaps you're just a typical American hater?
You Republitards are so fucking dumb. Ireland is part of Britian now?

I remember years ago when I used to say some stupid childish shit when I was mad and frustrated, my father made me write some of it down. He saved a few for me to read when I grew up, I couldn't stop laughing when we finally read them, in front of my wife!

The max naked capital loss you can write off in a year is $3K; I'll grant that and I've always found it to be an oddly ungenerous figure. If they had reportable capital gains to offset the loss that year, they can use the entire loss for a final savings. But yes; I incorrectly conflated capital and income taxes. cn

No worries, I know just enough to get me in trouble!
I duck hunt and ride motorcycles with my accountant, the more I think I know about taxes, the more I realize his worth.

I'd like to know why the media thinks Ann Romney is so bad for buying this shirt. Can anyone explain what the hell is wrong with spending $1000 on a shirt if you can afford it?

there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, unless you happen to be trying to show how in touch you are with the average american.

hey, how many people here have $1000 dollar shirts and swiss bank accounts?

Would you be saying the same thing if it was the first lady, no you wouldn't.
Why are you such a partisan?

ok, let me indulge your deflection. i mean, i thought this was about ann romney's $1000 shirt, not about dancing horses or michelle obama.

the first lady is extremely intelligent, came from a middle class family that traced its roots to slaves in south carolina, got extremely good grades in HS, has actually worked in a high-powered profession, and has never told my wife and i "you people should be satisfied with what we've given you". so even if she wore a $1000 shirt, i'd still be confident that she is more familiar with what average americans go through than ann romney, born with a silver spoon in her mouth in the idyllic bloomfield hills, only attending the finest private schools, and never punching a clock a day in her life.

On the one hand ... yes; it's her right.

On the other ... it's scientific fact that the shirt is fuck-ugly. Spending a grand on a fuck-ugly shirt to wear while the cameras are on is like giving the audience ... the bird. cn

i really don't give a shit about the shirt, it's what wearing it while going on TV to talk about how much she identifies with average americans that bothers me.

did she not see the problem with that? is her mentality that detached from reality?

i mean, she was born to money, only attended the finest private schools, and has never punched a clock a day in her life, but can you really be so detached as to think that would go smoothly?

the "you people" remark was just another one of those things that made me ask "really? did she just refer to us as 'you people'?"

But why in the hell are you lefties and the media making such a big issue about it, I really don't understand. Is it because she is a conservative or that she is rich, or both?
