I'm also a first time grower about to use popcorn. I am going to prepare my jar lids with with one inoculation hole stuffed with polyfill. Should there be any other layer between the lid and the corn? Such as a coffee filter or something (tyvek is not available where I live)? When I pressure cook the jars should the lids be fully tightened or just loosely closed?

just the polyfill is fine. you can inocculate through that.

you twist on the lids tight, with your gas exchange already taken care of.

you cover the lids with tinfoil to stop water condensation from dripping down into the jars and ruining your moisture content in the pressure cooker, then take off the tinfoil before inoculation when they have cooled

Mason jars are also impossible to find here. I bought some of these imported olives that come in air tight glass jars and am trying to use those. Do you think they'd be fine in the PC?

as long as you can rig up some sort of gas exchange. the mason jars are good because the lid is separate from the screw cap and you can replace it or modify it as you need to

i would think the only thing you couldn't use, would be a jar with a glass lid. i mean i even see people use tapered alcohol bottles

I went to walmart. you can find cases of them in the home and kitchenware section.

I did a grow of B++ some time ago and I made the mistake of placing them in Mason jars. When I needed to slide out, the lip prevented it.

Half pints work especially well for the pf tek I used. I would remove for fruiting.

Wide mouth is the key. You want it to have a straight inner lip. Half pints are best for pf tek, unless you get a longer needle.

I found them at Safeway, Fred Meyer, wholefood stores etc. They quite common.

to each their own i suppose tho

The jars that I am talking about look like this, except they're currently still filled with olives:

This was the best I could think of for jars. Spent all day looking for glass jars, people only have the ones with the rubber seal and clamp type thing. Mason jars haven't made it here yet (it was hard enough finding a substantial amount of popcorn). Like I said earlier, I plan on making the hole for polyfill in the lid. Would you suggest I go with it or try something else? Thanks!

I don't live in the US. Nothing remotely close to a walmart here. I plan on spawning to some properly aged horse or cow manure with coir.

What about jelly jars/picklejars/olivejars? might take a little time to acquire but maybe you could find a way to make them work if you are low on jars. just trying to brainstorm

Shake'em, wait two days and go for it. The rhyzomorphic qualities in your first jar show your grain is dry and that your mycelium really wants to create fruit.

So. You're going straight to a casing huh? Are you going to use one for bulk maybe? Or are you going to case em both for now? I can understand if you just case em both for now. Why not? You can always make more jars. Two weeks to colonize. Not bad. Later.

i spawned a bulk substrate with the jars

it was 6 parts verm, 4 parts coir, and 1 part gypsum

hope those amazons are good. if all goes well mine should produce its first fruits in 15-20 days
