I have attached a couple of pics of my plant. Its a rooftop grow in an 130 litre pot and it has just started to show signs of flowering. I have been at this stage once before with a simular size plant but through lack of knowledge didnt get it to the end. This year I would appreciate any input for potential problems I post on this thread in a bid to sort them out before this plant goes in the same direction as my previous attempt.


Problem 1 I have just noticed a good few leaves are very slightly twisted at the very tips. I have recently changed its food from vegative to flowering.

Any input or comments appreciated.

Water only and leave her alone. Only feeding for her that I would go for - a 0-50-30 feeding for heavy bloom. 2 times only two weeks apart now.

I'd wrap her up with the green stretchy garden tape cuz soon limbs will start falling for weight of buds. Since u can't use poles or bamboo to support weight, I think you need to wrap her up a few times.

Apologies Laney no close ups at the moment but will sort it out soon. Last years had a little bit of white powdery stuff on lower leaves and before I knew it half the plant was taken over, I then lost heart end of story.

Cheers hotrod. Wow I dont think I have seen food like that here in southern spain I think the flowering stuff I bought was 5-10-12. For now just water it is

Well, if powdery mildew is a problem in your area and got you last time, you should take preventative action now. Clear out some of the unproductive undergrowth and then spray for PM.

Believe it or not 420 there are three 8 foot poles in there somewhere. I have some of the main stems attached to them by means of wire is that a bad idea?

Lollypop them. anything growing on the inside is gonna be airy garbage and it just provides a foothold for insects / mold and the like. you can look at my threads and see examples of lollypopping.

If you don't like the idea of lollipopping (I don't), you can do just the bottom 12 inches or so. I do just 8-10" on my big girls, but PM has never been an issue for me.

Warren, congratulations on growing such a monster plant! I've got some questions about your region to help you finish her out and have a fat harvest. What is the humidity like where you are? It sounds to me like you got Powdery Mildew last year as it is a common problem for growers, and some plants are more susceptible than others. Its mostly caused by high humidity and stagnant air flow.

What Laney was recommending was removing some of the lower growth so the branches that are still intact can breath. You can also shake the water off the branches after it rains, or even shield it from rainwater. Another option if you have electricity on the roof is to point a fan at it whenever its muggy outside. Just some ideas...

Also, with fertilizing plants its always better to start with a low dose and see how they are affected. The leaf twist sounds like over fertilization. I always start with half strength nutrients until I know how the plants will react. Good luck. It looks like you've got it under control. And if you happen to see any of the white fungus, you can spray them with a solution of milk and water to help kill the powdery mildew. Do a web search.

Thanks for all the input. This morning I took some of the lower whispy branches off. Callme Tex the humidity here is between 65-80 with very little air flow at the mo. We have had no rain since early march and dont expect any for sometime yet, temp is about 40 but should cool off steadily from now. I have attached a photo of the plant I lost last year. I am very interested in the solution you mentioned milk and water, is it advisable to use as a preventive mesure or do you need the white mould to appear first?

LOL.....no offense, but I see nothing wrong with your "plant" ( we call those trees here ) except for the fact that it is greener than my jealous face at the moment......that is one beautiful plant. I am imagining myself kicking back on that rooftop sipping a single malt scotch and just breathing and smiling.

That thing will soon be stinking up the entire neighborhood !!!!!!!!!!!!

You could use stakes and string to lightly open her up a bit then trim the branches that aren't getting much light. Pretty much what everyone else said. Good looking plant. Keep a close eye out for budworms and spider mites. Might want to spray with a neem solution if you haven't already. Good for a pound if done right. Good luck man

If powdery mildew was a problem last year, what are you going to do this year to avoid it?

A spray bottle mixture of water, milk, and baking soda can help clear it up and avoid it.

What do the other veteranos in here use?

I don't see any pm on that plant? I don't know about using it as a preventative as I live in a place with very little humidity and powdery mildew so go figure. I take it you are near the ocean with that type of humidity? The fan option would probably serve you well.
As Jon stated its all about the preventative measures in growing pot. Maybe we will get someone with more experience in humid growing conditions.
