Sorry to pop in like this but i've been reading this for 3 days now lol. Mad props spliff. Fitst i'm a straight noob who's been doing research for months now for my future first grow, and i had my mind set on led but after reading this i might go with 3 420s or 400s 1 for veg 2 for bloom. I had a question for spliff, i've been watching ur vids and noticed u have 5 plants in 4x8 and was curious what yield are u expecting, i mean an estimate ofcourse. Oh and what advice on mother keeping do you have. Thanks in advance. Again mad props.
sorry? not at all! greets and welcome to the thread!

well, actually my tent is 5x10 and 7 feet tall, but ya, only 5 plants in it. my OL did 7ish ounces last run, from a 5gal and they're in 7gal pots this run, so i spose about 8 ounces or so per plant might be reasonable to anticipate. but i'm also changing the nutes a bit, and using Massive instead of Boost in waterings but still using Boost as a foliar.

as for keeping a mom... i generally don't keep a dedicated mommy. in my state, we are limited on adult plants, and i only take plants to the adult size if i am going to bloom them, not keep them around for cuts. i take cuts off all of my girls, when i prune them. the good cuts i root and the best of the clones i keep for the next rotations. for example, the 5 that are in the tent now, i also have a 2 month old CT in a #2, and a 1mo old in a #1. i have 2 1mo old MPs in #1s, one OL in a #1, one AO in a 4 inch square, and 2 WFs in #1s. the next rotation in will be a Blueberry (in a #3), 2 diff phenos of White Rhino (in #3s), a Qrazy Train (in a #2) that will be bumped to #7s and will root that first, then be groomed into scrogs and cuts taken for the next rounds of them... and so on. that way i can stay with the most diversity in my meds as possible.

but if you wanted to have one particular strain around for a long while and use it as a dedicated mommy, like for running a SoG or w/e, then i'd advise you to keep the room she's in immaculately clean. no outside clothes, and hepa/uc-v filtered air in a stable temp/RH environment. seriously, get anal on how clean you keep her and don't let other plants touch her, and no pets in the room. use a maintenance foliar program to keep bugs, mold and such off her - ounces of prevention are way cheaper than pounds of cure - even if you start with no bugs; keep it that way. also, look into beneficial soil microbes, even if you go hydro or w/e. you might also want to consider using some form of enzyme product that would help to ward off salt build up issues. pick soil or hydro that best suits you need for risk vs ability to invest time in upkeep. long term soil will eventually see you pruning her rootmass down and repotting her, or you will end up with a stunted rootbound mess of a plant that will soon fall out of your desires to keep around. i'd say look to your own past with plants on this for the most part. are you good at keeping plants around? have you kept a garden before? perhaps just start with seeing if you can carry a plant from baby to harvest before seeing if you can keep a plant in healthy veg for more than she would find to be "normal". i'm totally not trying to be an ass there, i just don't want to presume your experience level and advise you down a course of action that then might turn out to cause you drama or such...

thanks again for stopping by, and also for your kind words! feel free to hang out and chat away with us!

Well for my first grow i was thinking a 4x8 tent for flowering and a 4x4 area/tent maybe 4x8 as well for cloning vegging and i was gonna do a dwc in 5gal buckets and i was thinking get a few different seeds all at once but not grow all at once. The first round i wanna do a purple haze and either a blueberry or pineapple express. At 1st i was thinking a plant per each sq foot but after seeing ur set up i might do 4 in the 4x8 flower but i wanted to maybe down the line see if i could keep 10 different mothers. I live in a dry 30% humidity medicinal state so i figured humidity wouldnt be too hard to manage. Id love to hear any ideas or what not from u guys. Thanks

Hey Spliff. I've been watching this thread for a few months now and wanted to thank you for dedicating all this time to helping everyone see how induction lighting can work wonders. Thanks to you I just got a 420 for my 5x5 tent and a 200 for the veg closet. i was hoping you could give me a little advice since you have a lot of experience with the Inda-Gro's. Right now I have a Jack, Kandy Kush, and 2 skywalkers all in 5 gal buckets but I plan on adding 4 every month or so, so I can have kind of a perpetual harvest. My question is from your experience do you think the single 420 will suffice for my situation in my tent and also what would you recommend as far as ventilation because i have been having a hard time keeping temps below 80 degrees. I also have an exhale bag and didn't want to loose too much of the minimal Co2 that it produces. Sorry for all the question and thanks again for the awesome thread and helping me see the light (pun intended) +rep brother.

i might go with 3 420s or 400s 1 for veg 2 for bloom.
If memory serves from my visit to the Inda-Gro office the 400 is a 1st gen light, the 420 is 2nd gen.

The 420 is lighter in weight and has addition red for blooming.

Plus the new builds should have the new insulator which keep the light at full intensity even with a strong cool breeze (or fan) on it.

Just an FYI.

it's my understanding that the 400 is from the "Pro Series". the Pro-PAR lamps are available in 100w, 200w, or 420w. i have 2 of the Pro-200-PARs and 3 of the Pro-240-PARs; none of the Pro Series 400s.

I was told by Darryl that the 400s he has now are the new phosphor blend, in addition they have the insulator on the amalgam. They are PAR.

**It would be remiss if that was said just for a sale, there is an insulator on my amalgam though.

It should be mentioned that the benefit of the 420s is more than easier shipping, the shipping is cheaper too it's just inside their oversized/overweight limit.
Of course it has more output (thats important), it has a remote ballast option (thats cool), and it has an upgraded reflector.
Personally, all things I wish I had thought about more before cheaping out. just saying.....

A few pics from day 19. Hope the details show up on these. First pic is 3D. Check out the resin, not bad for day 19 and second is plushberry, the space queen pheno. My other two plushs are showing purple already, stoked on that and last is a random from last go.

Nete88,
Ten mother plants, wow you might want to think about pulling clones to keep your strains alive. Ten mothers will require lots of space, lights and work. You must not have certain numbers or sizes you are confined to. Ten strains is a lot to have as well. I managed a medical garden for the last few years that operated on 8 1000w hps and several t-5s. In this garden I had 16 strains and was a total pain in the ass. 16 is WAY too many!! It's cool to have lots of strains but you will find out not all are worth growing. I only liked 4 of the 16 but it being a co op garden it was not all my choice. Different strokes for different folks I guess. My point is why grow strains that are a 7 out of 10, for me there is no point. I want 9 out of 10 or better. Now that I'm working in my smaller personal garden with my beloved indagros I will only run maybe 4 strains. I'm currently working with 11 new strains that my neighbor and I have split up to find the best of the best and cull the rest. That was cool. When it I get that 11 down to 4 i will pop more beans and so on. Genetics have a lot to do with potency, yield and flavor so be picky my friend. Peace out

this could be the case; i'm not an expert on the Pro-400. if Darryl says it, i have no reason to doubt him. and it would make sense that as his research has lead to improvements on the PARs, that some of those benefits would trickle over to the 400. either way, i've seen some really nice plants under Pro-400s.

I think I will call indagro tommarow and see what the real deal is on the pro 400s. When I made my original purchase I asked Darryl if I should get a 400 for veg and 420 for flower and he said no and that I would be happier with all 420s. What would be the difference in the two if that is the case. Maybe it's the same ol 400 (housing, reflecter, weight) with a 420 bulb. I also want to find out about the insulator as well. Maybe they can be put on the older 420s that didn't come with them. It's not like we all don't have a fan or three running in our rooms. I want my lights to be at full throttle
