well fero(Canadian distributor) and area 51 are coming out with a another joint venture panel that should be releasing any day now.....should be a grade a/bad ass light according to EH.....not cheap but will have high quality leds and run rather quiet.....

Are you guys talking about the AF-150 here? What is the comparitive differences in the area 51 A51-135 and this light? I suppose this is Q is directed at Eraserhead seen as he has the low down scoop on this LOL.

The difference between the A51-135 and the AF150, the 135 is 16x16 in size, and is 260w. The 150 is 13x20 in size, and 165w, but uses Cree for all the whites (20pcs overall, 5w each). The biggest difference in the 150, all the white and farred LEDs each have their own circuit board and quick-connect plug kinda like the ones from Rapid LED, then the red LEDs, there's 3 per each circuit board and a quick-connect plug. Also, the 150 has clone/seedling, veg and flowering modes with the use of 3 switches. The 135 has 1/3, 2/3 and full power modes with the use of 2 switches.

There was a small hold-up in production, the factory workers weren't too keen on screwing down 44 individual pcb's (rather 1 large pcb containing all the LEDs) at the original agreed upon price, so we had to renegotiate the project and do some compromising.

The end results is a 2-3 week delay, but I am switching out the 20pcs of Cree 5w XPG cool white, for 6pcs Cree 10w XML natural white and 6pcs Cree 10w XML cool white (both top bins of course). And also, I switched out the deep red Epiled's (still top bin), with Philips Rebel deep red's (both bins, 650-660nm and 660-670nm). The power went up 5w (173w now, up from 168w), we added Philips and XML 10w, and will still be within our target price of $600 retail.

Should have pics in a couple weeks. Also expect a name change for the AF-150.

Epiled's aren't so bad, if they are the top bin, otherwise they are just mediocre-at-best Taiwanese LEDs. The only way to know you're getting top bin Taiwanese LEDs, is to buy them straight from the maker of them, not the factory that assembles the grow lights.

The fans will be 2x 120mm ball bearing fans, they are pretty quiet, compared to a Blackstar, it will be about 1/2 the sound level or better. It's been a while since I had a Blackstar, but I do remember them being a little loud. I did just recently buy an HTG "432w" 7 band. I'll be using it in a video to compare to my new light. That might be the loudest light I have ever heard. And is a far cry from "432w" like they claim the actual wattage is. It'll be a fun video.

Did you see that guys PAR reading on the Haight panel? I would have expected more from the HSS, and also less from a BS240.... Did you ever get a PAR reading from your light? I am curious what it would be.

Yeah but most of us don't have that luxury of buying in bulk from the manufacturer........in a pre-assembled panel I would stay away from them IMO, granted you know the industry way better than I do

120mm fans sound good, but I was more interested in your heatsink/mcpcb design......to deal with the 12! 10w diodes in that case.....ever thought of using remote drivers in future designs??? really like that Rhinogrow design/ longevity issues remain to be seen though..

That HSS panel's par reading is really low.......but they are using some plastic diffusion? cover over their 5w? leds(automotive rated lol)and NO cooling system/whacky

Don't know/or tested the par readings on Hans Panel........he has improved it with his new stock(replaced the blue cree xp-e with xt-e) and made it run cooler for more lumens/per watt(still 65w total per panel)...........

That is very true, most people do not buy their LEDs by the 10'000pcs+. I keep forgetting. If I were in the shoes of the everyday LED buyer, I would not be looking at any Epi-anything, star included. Unless it came from some place that can prove they are the top bin being used. I am still a firm believer that any company that sells LED grow lights, and states the LEDs are Epistar and/or Bridgelux, they are full of shit. Nether Epistar or Bridgelux looks like the LEDs used in any grow lights, nor do they provide the colors claimed to be used. Epistar and Bridgelux is kinda lame anyways....

Surprisingly, the XML's do not run too much hotter than the XPG's. The heat sink is one solid piece of aluminum with fins. The cooling setup is more than adequate for a 400w system. Cooler running LEDs = not only more output per electricity, but they last longer too.

Over the next few days we're deciding on the case color. I do not want to use the typical white, black or red color. I am thinking brushed aluminum, either graphite or silver finish.

@EH yeah who knows what led's are being used in these popular brands/ but i would also bet that most aren't legit and your right epi/star/bridge don't have great specs below top-bin....kinda leaves the consumer in the dark..............I applaud you/your company at area51lighting for really giving out the full info in your panels, everyone should do this IMO..........I'm excited to see this bad-ass panel in action no doubt/ you better post pics-videos of it in here
