Where are the jobs? Oh here are some

had no idea that labor for a wage was not a job.

next thing you know, they'll tell me that chewing food with nutritional value and swallowing it is not eating.
it is day labour not a "Job" go be snide someplace else bucky.

i lived as an itinerant farm worker for a couple years, it doesnt pay shit, you nearly starve between seasons if you cant find some source of income, and even when there is work, you have to travel from town to town, being treated like a vagrant.

thats not a job. it's labour for starvation wages. it only works if you take the money down to mexico in the off season where a couple hundred bucks was good money. now the exchange rate with the peso is shitty, the canadian dooler is worth more than the US dollar, and even mexicans arent sneaking across the border to grab a few coins from our pot of gold, since our coins are now mostly tin.

could YOU live in a car travelling from town to town, picking lettuce one week, picking tomatoes or onions the next, harvesting apples up north and peaches in the south without surrendering everything you had gained so far to keep a shitbox truck bumping and jolting down farm tracks and rural throughways never knowing if youll even get a chance to pick a few bushels for piecework pay?

i think not bucky, you are as smug and wrong as ever.

Lol, I've been unemployed since last December. You can apply for jobs All Day Long, but to get someone to actually email you back and set up an interview? Might as well be the goddamn second coming of Haile Selassie.
Hey have you ever tried to walk in the door and personally give your resume to the Receptionist and fill out an application?

Or try this secret tip

Show up at the company and introduce yourself to the plant manager

Here is another secret tip

Use a temp service or take a job that pays around the same as your unemployment insurance while looking for a job

According to the Florida Strawberry Growers Association, farm workers earn at least the minimum wage. During the picking season, some workers can earn more than 15 dollars an hour, depending on the amount of strawberries picked.
A handful of locals have tried the job at Fancy Farms.
"I can recall one fellow. He worked a half-day. Another fellow, he worked two half-days," Grooms said. "One guy worked one hour!"
No one survived the job.
Besides the hard work, there's also a stigma attached with working in the fields. Campbell said that socially, some feel this type of work is beneath them.
In Grooms' case, his work force is down about 20-percent, but that number will get worse in the coming weeks when the season ramps up.
He's confident some berries will go unpicked this year.
"We need more people right now, but you don’t dial up 4-0-9 and get the people you need," he said. "You wait for them to just drive in and you hire them."

That's a big mistake, emailing an application. Going there in person will be much more effective. Keep going back. That will set you out from the ones who just "phone it in". Dress for an interview when you go in and ask for the personnel manager. Don't go on a Friday, they're only thinking about their weekend. Have a resume with you when you go. Research the business before hand. Saying "no" to an applicant is just too easy when all you have to do is delete their email. It's much more difficult when you have to say "no" to the applicant in person. Go to businesses that aren't advertising, but that you would like to work for. Advertising for help is expensive, if a job opening comes up and they already know you, it saves them money to hire you. If you have friends who know you there, ask them for help. I have gotten an unadvertised job solely on good recommendations of former coworkers. I was interviewed by the owner of the business, side stepping the personnel office entirely. I was hired on the spot after a 5 minute interview. Of course, it helps to have a in demand skill. If you have no marketable skill or experience, your prospects of a good paying job are slim. Employers have a large pool of unskilled workers to choose from, highly skilled workers are hard to find. I make enough that I can live well enough on unemployment, if needed, to be choosey about what jobs I will accept. I have been fortunate in that I developed skill in what has become a high demand field. If you're just starting out in the workforce, finding work will be difficult in this job market. You have to make yourself appear to be the better prospect to the employer.

Ok this thread started out retarded and only progressed. Trucking driving and strawberry picking, again where do you come up with this shit? Why the hell are you libtards being delusional and saying there is plenty of jobs and the economy is fine? Is it because its time to start talking about the economy and its obvious nothing has changed in 3.7 years? Do you think anyone with an IQ over potato will believe you? 13million+ unemployed and your posting straw fucking berries picking? What next we can pay back the deficit with potatoes?

Take a Job
When i got laid off
I took a job that was a huge pay cut
my net after taxes was 80 bucks more a week than unemployment was paying
I had an interview like a year later and the guy pointed to a stack of resumes and said quote
"these guys have been unemployed for 2 years, you have been working steady even thru the recession"
I believe it is at the point now, if you been unemployed for any length of time
no one is going to want you
They just figure you are either lazy or worthless and in any event not very ambitious

cool story, bro.

i dropped out of college 5 classes short of a major to support my wife while she pursued her doctorate in psychology.

I quit that job as i went broke working it, started to do my own thing. now i support myself fully and help cover some of the other expenses (my wife has a pre-existing condition, her health insurance is not cheap).
7/19/2011 Poor, Poor, Obama post65

why don't you actually go back and read it? because that is certainly not what it says.

i honestly think you need therapy, and so does my wife, a phd in psychology. your midset is not healthy. 8/27/2010 Inside Conspiracism post18
Sounds like me you admitted being a mooch. How long do you think you can ride her skirt tail? Its going to hit you like a ton of bricks when she realizes she can do so much better than a treadmill dealer.
