 Whaaaaa? You don't like Cayenne? Why is it evil? I use it or Ancho on nearly everything.... I don;t THINK I'm evil.

GD margaritas.... I should check out now before I pull some DSB
I think our abhorrence comes from white folks thinking everything southwest has cumin or cayenne in it. I've had some pretty horrible "authentic" southwestern cuisine covered in it from people who just moved here. I can honestly say I've never used either in any of my dishes. I make a meat dish with Mexene but that's about it.

That's gonna be a damn shame right there, uh,..cayenne is a good spice, don;t cut your nose to spite your face, my friend.

Going without tonight.

We went to a nice Thai restaurant that we had been to many times before. I ordered the mahi mahi and shrimp in a basil sauce with a side salad w/peanut dressing.

The waitress comes to the table with our meal and says " Oh i don't know which one is which, they both look alike."

mahi mahi does not look like pompano and basil sauce does not look like plum sauce so I figure
the waitress to be a bit dim as I'm sure someone would have told her before she brought it out.

I like mahi it is a good steak type fish. Tonight I found out that I do not like basil sauce
or the cook just thought he would shit on my mahi.

One bite and the whole deal was off. did not even eat the shrimp. I did try it but
could not finish chewing it. just spit it back onto the plate.

So at the end i asked for a to go box, i figured the dogs would eat the fish and shrimp.
Halfwit comes out with a box and before i could see what was happening she grabbed the rice and put it in the box.
Before she could grab the plate, still 99.8% untouched, I blocked her hands and asked for the box.

Fuck I sure as hell knew the dogs were not going to eat the sauce or the veggies on top so I started to
dig the fish from under the veggies when I figure out the rice was already in the box, I'm nearly
juggling the box and the fork trying to mine for that fucking sea creature.

The shut down mode came over me, i could not get up and leave fast enough, I left the full dinner scattered over the plate, the box and rice setting beside it, on the table and got up and left, after paying the bill. It was silently get up and leave or go into a tirade with management about the imbecile that works for them and the perceived "shit" i was served. Rather than create a huge scene I chose the former over the latter.

To top the evening off I should have known something was awry when I saw a hand printed "Gifts for sale"
sign at the cash register with cheap trinket shit under it. when I saw that I wanted to leave, hell
i did not go to a flea market to eat a nice thai meal, nor did i go to a Chinese restaurant where I
have come to accept such junk at the register.

and no I did not leave a scattered mess at the table.

so tonight this little piggy had none.

Lokie, personally i have found mahi mahi to be hit or miss. When prepared right, it's simply wonderful. But I've had it tough and bland ... and every time I tried to make it at home, it was tough and bland. I've learned it needs to be cooked just right. I'd only order it from a restaurant that knows what it's doing, which means I don't, since they probably have snow crab legs anyway. ~salivate~ cn

Yes mahi needs to be prepared properly to be enjoyed. I used to own a seafood restaurant and
have eaten fish in many 5* places as well as a few po dunk holes in the middle of nowhere.

The fish was cooked nice, it was definitely the sauce.

Sad too, I probably wont go back, I would know not to order the
mahi basil but the Finger Hut display destroyed the atmosphere.:-?

Was the sauce bitter? I've had some basil pesto that would curl your toenails. Sounds like the ONE Thai food restaurant we have in town. Owned by a white dude. Worst food I've ever had the misfortune to pay for.

Yep , Siam Queen strain of basil is what you got. Its an Asian plant and used in a lot of Thai cooking that has fish. They must have over done it. This is much more potent then regular basil

This is a simple thread.

Post what you are having for breakfast lunch, or dinner today. (depending on your time of day)

Tonight I am eating a very simple Tuna submarine sandwich with black olives mayo, black pepper, and tomato, topped off with some banana peppers (semi hot).

So, what's on your menu tonight?
Subway fan, huh?
I like the Italian, on Italian bread, no cheese, lotsa salt and pepper, hot peppers, olives, onion, and sprouts if they have them (is that subway or firehouse?), mayo, oil and vinegar.

for breakfast i had a huge pitcher of banana/pineapple/orange/papaya smoothie
---
for lunch it was a dragonfruit/banana smoothies and shredded carrots/cabbage with a sauce spread over romaine leaves.
-----
tonight, it's gonna be a "raw vegan" spaghetti dish - spiralized zuchinni being the pasta, and a sunflower/hemp seed paste with garlic, spices, and nutritional yeast for the sauce. a big salad with it and maybe some lightly sauteed kale on the side.
