Garbage bag over plant before harvest?

So im coming towards an end on my first ever grow (geurilla grow ) started with 7 ended with 1 . but anyways i have heard its beneficial to cover your plant with a black garbage bag 2 days before harvest because the number of trichomes increases as it thinks its life is coming to an end. will this help me ? and also will i need to take the bag off once a day or anything to remove any moisture inside of it or will it be ok?

emm.... wouldn't the bag stick to the plant? i know what you mean, i have read that 36-48 hrs dark before harvest can help but im sure a bag would be bad, when you pull it off it wouldnt you risk damaging the plant and buds? i haven't had a harvest yet, im only just starting out so i dont know for sure but it sounds wrong to me

It will not kill the plant my gf did it all through flower on a plant to simulate 12/12 and had no problem. With that said 48 hours of darkness is not 100 percent nes. I just harvested two that are killer smoke and I did ont do that this time they just looked ready under the scope and the smell was off the hook.

I would worry about the trichs sticking to the plastic (static charge?) and possible mould.
Saying that, this can be a good method for inducing flowering early.

Don;t do it. Bags and outdoor nights don't mix good together, mold is the risk here. Also this could just be a myth, either way, you won't even see the difference even if it works.
Well maybe it'd be safe for like nights, as already said, to induce flowering, but certainly not for 48h. I would be too afraid to do taht, I don't want mold to ruin my harvest.

if you use something breathable you could do it like a canvas sack, but a trash bag is asking for mold. second i doubt youll see any difference.

The point is to 'feel' the difference, not 'see' the difference.

If you could find some sort of aerated method of doing the dark period then that would be much better than a trash bag.

Might as well just put some nails in the stem and hang the plant upside down so "all the thc goes into buds". If these methods worked, everybody would be using them.

I have to disagree; growing is full of secrets. FIM pruning, mainlining, etc. I think maybe you mean that after this discoveries are made they do not stay secrets.

I would not blow off a technique just because "if no one else is using it, it must not work". Try it.. I do my research first, but if you don't mind loosing a plant or two experimention can teach you a lot.

I believe you said it was your first grow, and you've only got 1 of 7 left to harvest. I would leave the bags in the trash can and focus on getting some kind of useable results. Next year if youve got 5 or 6 out 7, WTF trough a paper bag on it see what happens.

Back to topic: I think I could prove this doesn't work by the fact that plants need light to make energy ( not energy but, you get the point) And some of the left is used at night, now - when you don't have light for a long time, all this energy is used and there is no more left to grow or make more trichs (more trichs was the point of the darkness right?) So obviously it doesn't, or should I better say , It SHOULDN'T work.

you're clearly missing the point completely my friends...
covering is really a very smart thing to do just 2 days before harvest...
but it's not for the sake of encouraging trichome production, it's to use
up the starch stored in the plant. if the plant is in complete darkness
it is unable to synthesize the sugars it uses as food, and calls on the
reserves it has all over the plant, in the stem, in the leaves, and
in the buds. the presence of extra starch (which is always there in
a very healthy plant) makes for a harsher smoke.
as a result, covering the bag will not change your trichome production
rate or anything that affects the high really. it will only change
the TASTE and FEEL of the smoke as it goes down.
however, in some areas, as has been said here, covering
it just begs the mould to sit on the plant. not an issue
for me as i have never seen a night here go below 10 deg. celsius,
and that's in december/january. take a call on your weather and
humidity and decide what you want to do. a breathable
material is best but it's risky as a guerilla grower, i'm guessing.
for indoor growers it's easy as whale shit, just turn off
the lights 2 days before harvest and keep them off.

im no to sure how i like your dark i might try paper bag or pillwow case sumthing breathable

an i think there will be minimal stick lik in the jars
no matter whut you use but will varry sum more sum materials less

but this is outside - do we have to worry about law or is this a place allowed number of plants

This is absolutely false... I just noticed this was posted in 2012 so I’m sure you know this to be true by now, but 36-48 hours darkness and no water is the way to finish her up. The darkness def makes the triches pop and no water will help the dry, it won’t take forever because it’s filled with water (if you flushed properly), and it will still go nice and slow so they don’t dry out too fast and trap the chlorophyll inside your buds which also traps the dank ass smell ur looking for and your buds will smell like hay and it will not go away if you really dried it out too much.. nothing worse than to finish a killer harvest and then mess it up during the cure.

Flushing is absolutely unnecessary and useless. Newer growers - avoid this unnecessary stupidity. No need for the dark period either. Just be sure to dry it in the dark to get rid of chlorophyll and that hay flavor and smell.
