Root Aphids.

Went and got SN-203 today, which is Rosemary oil and a few other essential oils... all natural pesticide, non-systemic.

So I was talking to my buddy at Homegrown, and he had a theory that since I had a few mature ones that killed on my last treatment (less than a dozen), those could be responsible for the eggs and immature ones I'm seeing which might not be affected by the Imid, but don't seem to like coriander oil, or any other essential oil for that matter. So my plan is to give them another dunk, this time in the SNS203, tomorrow, and then spray down my tray and res with the SNS203 spray.

@Irieie - the effect they are having is a quick fading of the leaves, that almost gets to a point of chlorosis. My last run had it on a few plants, but I thought it was because they were too close to the light, but I really don't think that's what it was now. I think it was these buggers and I just didn't know.

Lot's of people had the Mazar and said they liked it and it was potent. I pulled a good yield last round too, about 25 ounces under 1000. I felt that it lacked in the terpene department, and I've heard that because the plant focuses on fighting off these buggers, that it can definitely have an effect on the final taste and look of the product.

My plants are in Day 10 of flower on a 63 day strain.

IDK if this helps but I left bayer in the res for a while with no ill effects.....changed it out....fresh nutes and more bayer...sprayed everything with bayer repeatedly and they were gone with in 2 weeks, I had winged aphids and you know by the time they have wings you have a nasty infestation, plants will look to have deficiencies when root aphids are munching away....I thought my plants were exhibiting signs of nutrient lock out until I saw this nasty vermin crawling around the rim of my pots,I also thought the winged ones were fungus gnats.....also on another note you can get good results in hydro but as far as terpenes & I know anyone that knows me is tired of hearing this but nothing beats the taste of good ol organic grown budz, only downside is yield is lower....but budz smell and taste way better....I grow both hydroponics (ebb and grow) and organic (roots organic and subs super soil mix)....anyways hope you eradicate them sooner than later.....good luck

Sucks dude because I have smoked a lot of Mazzar in my day and you're right its potent as fuck! Always gets me higher than a giraffes pussy.

Haha... I totally agree with you. Nothing like organics. My buddy I got my Wifi from does it all organics, and I prefer to smoke his over mine. Every hit has that full flavor.

So my plant is exhibiting signs of root aphids (day 18 into flowering) and I have actually pulled some roots out from the sides of the container and inspected... they were healthy looking and I could not see any aphid around... wondering if the Bayer is still OK to use?

I wouldn't. I would go the rosemary/cinnamon oil route.

Maybe get SNS-203. It seems to be killing the small nymphs. I have to stay on it daily by spraying the trays down, but I never see more than 5 of them per 3x3 when the lights come on. I just spray immediately and they are dead.

Plants are looking healthier. I'm confident I can take them to term with no ill adverse effects.

I've also heard you can use Botaniguard all the way through flower. Don't take my word for it, but do a little research as it seems to be an option. I believe it is a fungus that attacks the aphids.

botaniguard is pricey but I've been wanting to try some of that one day, I just had a ordeal with aphids and as I said earlier a rotation of pyganic and azamax though an airless paint sprayer work wonders. what I did was soil drench with either azamax or pyganic, in the beginning I had better than 28 days till harvest so I threw a little malathion in a spray bottle and hit the tops and sides of pots, they clearly want away from the soil drench. after that I'd do the same soil drench and then load up the airless paint sprayer with whatever I drenched the soil with and drench the entire fucking room with it. I did this for a period of a week or so every other day and I can't find an insect one (including a mite).

If you can't find root aphids then why do you want to treat them?? Find the source of the prob first then take action.......

Latest update.

Well, it looks like I'll never be rid of these until I tear down and sterilize, but the good news is that I feel like I can keep them safely contained for the remaining 7 weeks.

The SNS-203 as a foiliar is working wonders on the immature nymphs I see after the first flooding each day. I only see about less than a half dozen each day, but just knowing how these things live birth pregnant females, ONE root aphid is too many root aphids. But the SNS-203 annihilates these guys at this life stage.

I find it extremely interesting that some pesticides are ineffective at certain stages of this pest's life cycle.

try some predator bugs that eat the aphids.

Looks like I may have finally got them.

Not a sign in the last 2 days. Crossing my fingers. Ladies looking signifigantly better.

Just all of the above, and then I ended up doing a Azatrol drench on day 14 to really kill off those nymphs and larvae, and I think that did the trick.

They look so much better and healthier, and tons of fresh, white roots shooting out. I think I'm going to make it through harvest, knock on wood.

I was not treating for them.. just wanted to have a product on hand if they did show their head (which I did find one crawling around the stem base on Friday the 19th) I have used the rosemary/clove oil (eco smart garden insect killer) but I see that the concentration is not as much as the SNS 203 .25% rosemary/.25% clove on eco as apposed to .56% /1.46%.. so don't know if it killed them all or not. I applied this on Friday and was going to do it again Monday or Tuesday. I am ordering nematodes as we speak as they will be able to be put into the soil at day 29/30 and hopefully help. I am keeping the nematodes for the next round and using them when I get the good seeds. Does anyone know if met 52 will kill nematodes as well as the root aphids?

Even if you do tear down and restart you are gonna have to pretreat your new plants with something. Myself, I am giving up the fight for awhile. Maybe try it again in a few months, these fuckers are just too much for me. Good luck everyone.

Ok, ordering nematodes now, from some one linking in one of these threads, to use on the existing plant in flowering. I will send wave after wave of nematodes, so I can save this girl. Once I start my good seeds, they will be going into the soil mixed with Met 52. I think that this will be a part of my grow, met 52 mix, from here on out.. specially since last winter was 'nice' to these little buggers, which is why I think that they are in abundance this year... who knows about next year though.

edit: answered my own question. "Met 52 goes after hard shell insects, which is why it will not work well for fungus gnats, there for it will not kill the nematodes" from a person who has been battling root aphids for a couple of years in a very large MMJ commercial grow (how ever large they are these days :) )

drench the roots in mighty wash

then apply MET 52. its a biofungus that kills aphids in soil. but it takes about 2 weeks to innoculate soil and you have to spread the grains around as much as possible. best to pre-mix it into the soil before transplanting. search around this site and others like thcfamer and you will find loads of info. good luck.

you may want to take clones, start clean and throw out all existing soil. trust me its not with batteling during flowering. expect 10-25% yeilds.

or go chemy. i prefer to not smoke systemic chemicals in my flowers.

I have read this thread up to this post and wanted to make a comment. I experienced first hand the effects of a root aphid infestation that seemed resistant to all treatments. I concur with Oldschooltofu that yield is significantly effected by root aphids.
