go check your household for products made in china. i bet you have a ton of them.

i try my best to buy american, but it's tough. it's especially tough for us lower middle class folks who rely on cheap goods.

so, is everyone ready to pay more for every product in their house that's made in china under a romney presidency?

Willard "Mitt" Romney said:
...on day one I will label them a currency manipulator which allows us to apply tariffs...
everyone here understands that tariffs mean we pay more for chinese goods, right?

who here is in favor of an effective tax on every american, a tax that disproportionately hurts the poorest among us?

these were mitt's words at the debate tonight. transcript here:

I say good. Maybe then we can end the trade imbalance which is causing our currency to be worth shit because we borrow more to import than we export. Maybe made in the USA will mean quality again. Worry later rather than pay now got us into this mess.

for someone who complained so much about the financial burden when your stimulus tax breaks expired, i find it hard to believe that you would be thrilled about voting against your wallet like that.

I only buy quality. Quality costs more but you get more. My projector is American and so is my blu-ray player, $400. You get what you pay for.RCA and Zennith used to be top brands, now "top" is Sony, etc.Except for my kids' toys, practically nothing is China

The tariff is to entice American companies who are outsourcing their jobs, to bring the jobs back. And nothing is more of an enticement than to have the hammer come down on your wallet.

It might seem bad in the beginning, but when the jobs come back, wages will increase, and our economy becomes more independent, which is what we need.

And the biggest sale line in the Republican arsenal is
"and everything costs more"

will the tariffs not generate national income allowing taxing to recede slightly to offset the increased cost, leaving the consumer paying about the same when its all said and done?

Funny.
The price of energy causes everything to go up as well, every single product in America...
Yet people use the argument that by paying high for everything now is good for the future, but it cant go both ways?

The Chinese were recently shipping solar panels to America at 1/4 of the cost.
The Obama administration placed a tax on them that raised the cost to more than American made solar panels.
So he basically denied the American people on cheap, affordable, green energy. Was it bad? Should he have taxed the shit out of the cheap Chinese solar panels to make things more competitive and fair for American solar panel manufacturers?

So to get out of the stranglehold China seems to have on us, we may have to go through some tough times?
Something has to be done. We cant continue the same path we have been heading on for the past 40 years.

And the reason those disappeared is that China and other countries can make those products cheaper.

If we want those things produced here by workers making good wages then we can expect to pay more for the products. It is simple math.

Unless we address the trade manipulation done primarily by China we can never expect the playing field to be fair.

If any of you were of driving age in the 80's its not hard to see why things changed like they did.
The cars from the 80's and early 90's are the epitome of what happened to the American quality we were so proud of in the past.
You were a fool, IMO, to have bought an American made car during that time-frame. They were some of the biggest pieces of shit you could imagine. That is where the free-market made a big difference. People stopped buying their junk and started buying foreign made automobiles. By the time they tried to correct some of their issues, the damage was done. The reliability and dependability rates were established with the foreign cars and they had gained loyalty from their customers.

I heard a story once that an American company hired a Japanese company to make cars or something. And they allowed 1 defect in 100 or whatever. When the products arrived the defective parts arrived in a separate container. The Japanese didnt understand or didnt accept defects in their products.

Tariff would make the prices of chinese shit comparable to US made version, so more people would buy American products when they're not more expensive than the shittily made chinese version.

Expensive gas hurts globalization, if gas went up to $10/gal it wouldn't be nearly as worthwhile to ship raw materials across the ocean to china, then back as products, compared with making things here and transporting around the country to market.

You assume under romney more gas will be sold here, driving prices down, there's nothing ensuring that oil companies sell american oil to america....plus we won't have enough to be completely independent and the saudi's will just jack up the price of whatever they sell us as they always do...

Getting the fuck out of the middle east would drive prices down, we create instability and increase demand.

Ever been to a harbor freight store? 99% china made. Some peolle rag on that store for being cheap "crap" but i can say i have several tools, power and non powered, that ive had going on 4 years or so. All working perfectly. Why did i shop there and not somewhere else with american tools? I couldnt afford it.
This isnt going to bring down costs of american made anything, itll just make it more competitive. With the cost of inflation, materials. Like iron ore and the like that we get from china is going to skyrocket thus making a vast majority of american made goods to get even more expensive. This ia Romneys plan to trick us into believing hes soing something good for america.

He dont care about the lower class citizen, hes made this clear. Making things more expensive in the long run will only hurt us more in the long run.

PS- Ive had many american made tools and such break before my china made items. I try to buy american when i can on certain items. Take a look around your house as UB said and youll be surprised at how many things come from over seas. Things you wouldnt even imagine.

I need a sapporo...
