made in china

Ever been to a harbor freight store? 99% china made. Some peolle rag on that store for being cheap "crap" but i can say i have several tools, power and non powered, that ive had going on 4 years or so. All working perfectly. Why did i shop there and not somewhere else with american tools? I couldnt afford it.
This isnt going to bring down costs of american made anything, itll just make it more competitive. With the cost of inflation, materials. Like iron ore and the like that we get from china is going to skyrocket thus making a vast majority of american made goods to get even more expensive. This ia Romneys plan to trick us into believing hes soing something good for america.

He dont care about the lower class citizen, hes made this clear. Making things more expensive in the long run will only hurt us more in the long run.

PS- Ive had many american made tools and such break before my china made items. I try to buy american when i can on certain items. Take a look around your house as UB said and youll be surprised at how many things come from over seas. Things you wouldnt even imagine.

I need a sapporo...

I shop at Harbor Freight regularly. I have been using their 15 dollar drills for years and have no issues with them.

At the same time, when prices when up on foreign cars they are still in demand. Foreign cars are as expensive if not more so than American cars but people are willing to spend the money because of the quality.
I would imagine it would be the same way in most regards.

Although, I am unbelievably happy with my Vizio 3d tv that I am sure I would never have been able to afford if not for the Chinese and Walmart.

Are you opposed to Obama's tariffs? For instance the Chinese tire tariff that came up in the debate? Or are you just against the very very similar proposed republican tariffs?

I say good. Maybe then we can end the trade imbalance which is causing our currency to be worth shit because we borrow more to import than we export. Maybe made in the USA will mean quality again. Worry later rather than pay now got us into this mess.
i been saying stuff like this for a while, people won't give up their 500 dollar iphones.

So to get out of the stranglehold China seems to have on us, we may have to go through some tough times?
Something has to be done. We cant continue the same path we have been heading on for the past 40 years.

Instead of pissing away hundreds of billions of dollars in the mid east why not start knocking some of that debt down, pay the off and then tax the shit out of any imports.

If you are asking me, I can easily say I have no freaking idea.
It is a half-dozen up, half-dozen down.
If we continue as is, it will keep some of the prices down on some items. If we make changes, prices are going up and things will be tough, but it will start paving a way for things to level out in the long run. If the economy wasnt already so piss-poor I could easily say yes, lets start the road to recovery. As things stand, its already so rough, its hard to want to add any extra.

I buy tires maybe once every 3-4 years and isnt something i normally need right away such the case with tools. And when i do need a tire right away, i have a spare waiting for me looking nice and shiny, with that new factory smell.

Problem is, even if we saved every penny overseas, it wouldnt be enough to pay our spending as it is, much less pay off debt.
That is one of our biggest problems. Our income is 2.5 trillion, our spending is 4+ trillion. We cant even pay our current bills much less pay off debt. We are incurring debt, not paying it down. We have to come up with 1.5 trillion a year MORE just to break even. Basically we need 2 + trillion more in order to pay our current bills PLUS pay on debt. Of course we are paying interest on that debt as well. So you may even be able to say we need 2.5 more trillion a year income in order to pay our current bills, pay our debt interest + actual debt.
That is basically doubling our current income. So we need to double our income, cut 2.5 trillion in spending (as things stand today, when the Obama policies take effect it jumps up to 5 trillion spending so need an addition 1 trillion in cuts) or a combination of both.
1.25 trillion added (raising taxes on the 1% = around 60 billion) and 1.25 trill in spending cuts.

Know what would knock a dent in our bills? Marijuana legalization. But that was an easy one. Sure we could cut the middle east out but its been said numerous times that we dont have enough oil in the US to keep up with the demand that we have now. Itll work for X amount of years but what happens when our wells are tapped? We would have to go back to middle east oil at a much higher increased price per barrel, thus making us go to war over prices an all the while losing another untold billions for funding the war. Trickle down effect here we come.

Althor very true....but what if we cut the defense spending by 60%...legalized mariuana..mass production of hemp...start using our best nat resource..natural gas and export that...more jobs = more money= less people sucking off the government tittay.

america would need another industrial revolution to get off china's teet.
The Industrial Revolution the world over was fueled (and I choose the word deliberately) by the discovery of abundant fossil fuel: first coal, then oil. We're coming to the end of that line: the oil is running out, and coal is stigmatized by its twin environmental burdens. There's no replacement energy source on the horizon to drive this industrial age indefinitely forward, let alone power a new one. You know we're in the kimchee when the premier energy-management strategy is become more efficient; waste less of what remains. cn

If any of you were of driving age in the 80's its not hard to see why things changed like they did.
The cars from the 80's and early 90's are the epitome of what happened to the American quality we were so proud of in the past.
You were a fool, IMO, to have bought an American made car during that time-frame. They were some of the biggest pieces of shit you could imagine. That is where the free-market made a big difference. People stopped buying their junk and started buying foreign made automobiles. By the time they tried to correct some of their issues, the damage was done. The reliability and dependability rates were established with the foreign cars and they had gained loyalty from their customers.
american cars in the 80's and 90's sucked because the government made them suck.

CAFE standards, the catalytic converter (which american car companies paid to develop, and the japanese companies got for free) the end of refinery building, embargoes on american oil exploration and carter's gas crunch caused a dramatic redesign of cars. this ended the muscle car era and ushered in the age of shitbox economy cars with crumply frames and bumpers made of styrofoam (no shit. styrofoam)

american car companies fucked themselves by trying to play the smaller/lighter game with japan. the japanese had that shit on lock after we rebuilt their industries in the marshal plan, and they could sell their shitboxes cheaper than our shitboxes, but our shitboxes were still trying to pretend they were real cars. nobody believed it, so nobody bought it. even if you put in corinthian leather.

The worst cars I remember were from the late 70s. They were mostly American, but not exclusively. Along with AMC Eagles, Chevettes and the glorious K-Car ... there was also the Renault "Le Car", better known as the "cinq" across the water. It would have been better for all of us if the ship ... cinq. cn

fuck you for reminding me of the K-car

the mid 70's is when the shit car phenomenon started. if reached the glorious peak in 1986 with the '86 cadillac el dorado. you could not stop the bumpers from falling off those fuckers, they creaked and groaned on your test drive, and the saleman basically insisted

"it'll ride up with wear..."

Nowt compared to the Seville aka "Citation Plus", with its V8-6-4-2-0 or, for extra special Geek Mom points, the Deazel. It was equal parts Diesel and Sleazel. cn

Having things made in China is not a problem. If we tried to make the products here, the products would not be able to be sold because they would cost too much. In an increasingly global economy, it is important for Americans to realize that they will need to lower their standard of living if they are not going to learn some kind of specialized skill.

the seville may have LOOKED like a turd on a rollerskate but they were ok to drive, didnt break down very often and they were easy to work on, the eldorado was crafted in the pits of ghlashtin by nefarious goblin atrificers for the bitch queen morrigan solely to slay the faithful and make us despair.

also, dat trunk...

the sevilles were unpopular but i still se Dat Trunk rollin in my hood. usually with blue hair and wrinkled knuckles peeping over the dash. they remain terribly popular with the mini-caddy golfland set, while the el dorado is fixed squarely in the subconscious mind of the black consumer as THE car to put on 22's with gold curb feelers and headlight shades. no other caddy can suffice
