I dry for 4-7 days (til there crispy enough to not crush under there own weight), then box for a day or so, depends on what I got to do and how crispy they are. once they feel smokable (still pretty wet) I manicure and jar. then depending on how well I timed all of that I pop the jar open for anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours everyday (trying to let a little moisture escape), which in Michigan can really suck sometimes. I usually consider it ready at about 3-4 weeks after harvest, when the big stems in the middle of the big buds snap. If you did it right the buds should still seem a little moist. I think a correct cure takes a tad longer but after enough years I have found that most people prefer the flavor at about a month and I like the smoothness it gets over the next month. I really want a drying a curing area with climate controls. There an art to getting it just right. I don't like a real hot smoke and the best way to get that is dry it to a crisp and not cure it.. I think a lot of people like to dry it more, then jar but I think that a lot of the time if you get it to dry for just a second you never get that juicy goodness back. At about 6 weeks I would call it perfect (for my taste) and it is still pliable but dry.
