Israel, like any sovereign nation, has the right to defend itself.
It does NOT have the right to carry out cross-border strikes that wound and kill dozens of innocent civilians, all for the sake of one combatant.
America's relationship with Israel is bordering on dangerous now, and if we continue to sit by saying nothing we'll be drawn into wars that are not our own.
We need to reaffirm we are their ally, but that they too must be willing to strive for peace in the region. Not simply foster false rhetoric to buy time for continued hostilities, as seems to be the policy at play lately.
I respect Israel's right to exist, even though I feel the Palestinians' claim is legitimate. With any luck, the dream of a 2-state system or at least peaceful cohabitation will have been realized within my lifetime. But that is only if both sides can reign in firebrands and warhawks who would wish to derail the process for whatever reason. Israel has to lead the way on this if they are to be the respected world power they wish to be seen as.
Blood can no longer be spilled in the name of imaginary lines and ancient fairytales. Not everyone believes in your deity-of-choice, they shouldn't have to suffer the fallout of bickering about bedtime stories.
