1000 Watt System Good or Bad Idea

1000W dude if your room is big enough and you can control heat issues why wouldnt you go with the 1000W.. No brainer! More lumens!

Pretty sure you mean 1000w. Yes, the magnetic will power 1, 1000w light or if you get the splitter, you have 2 600's because the 1000w mag ballasts pull about 1200W.
Get two 1000W's !!!! I run two 1000W HPS for flower in a 10' x 10' room. If you get a good big fat hood like the Raptor you can get a easy 5' x 5' light foot print

Personally

If you have a large space I think that 2 600w hps`s and a 500w induction light would be a good call you could veg under the induction and later pop on 1 or both of the hps`s allows you to mix up how many plants you are growing cut`s your electric bill too just a bit pricey to set up in the 1st place but if you have that kind of room it`s never going to be cheap I mean just nutes when you get to them kinda numbers would make my bank account cry but come harvest time my mouth would be dribbling :P

Oh, and before you 600 guys with your "super lume" start piping up... I got your super lume right there. Lumen/sq ft. bongsmilie

Yo Krondizzel what you must get some monsters under that set up ?

Ever over drive your 1000`s ?

I`m more a 1000w per sq m kind of guy don`t much care what the light source is but as I most of what I can buy is either sun or hps weed I like to play with led`s, cfl`s, plasma, induction and anything else I can find, I was drunk the other week and started looking into blue and red neon lights just to see if it could be done........ then thought that was going a bit too far, lol

I have some overdrive im going to use on my plants again once they're finishing up. The more lights but the better, but I think I need that spiltter, 1200 watts is good enough for me considering I live in the city

I think you are confused about the power consumption/output on the equipment you are using.
A 1000w mag core n coil ballast consumes about 1100 watts. It does not put out 1100w!

Yeah, definitely time to shine some experience on that...magical 1000watt magnetic ballast can put out more than the new age digital ballast....lol

Lumens dont do you any good if the hood is so far up your not even getting max lumens. 1000 watters just make to much heat and not enough lumens to be as efficient as a 600. And I put my 600watt buds up against any 1000 watt guy and would probably have the same if not larger buds. Dont get me wrong now if I did have money to piss away sure id run 1000watters but due to growing being illegal and power rates sky high I prefer to keep my heat signature/exhaust, and power consumption to a minimal. Ive seen many large ops ran off multiple 600s.

If you really want lumens then use 2 1k watters in one hood. They have hoods that take two bulbs, gorillagro hood, and the brand new 2013 raptor will hold two bulbs.

You want two 600s out of one ballast? Then buy a dual 600 watt lumatek ballast. If the 1000watter mag ballast would run 2 600s just as efficient then why do 600 watt digital ballast even exist?

Also I was always told most ballast DO NOT PUT OUT THE SAID WATTAGE. That is WATTAGE CONSUMPTION, NOT OUTPUT! A 1000watt mag ballast does not put out even 1000watts to the bulb. Its less but I cant remember the exact number. That is why electronic ballast came out. I hear hortilux&badass are suppose to be the most efficient ballasts. I use a Lumatek and a Galaxy for the price.

600 are the most efficient hps out. I think most would agree that 2 600 will out perform 1 1000watter. You can run them closer and spread the coverage. Coverage alone will allow more plants and higher quality buds across the whole room. And for a full room (assuming spare bedroom size), you could have 4 600's doing 1lb per light. Only one or two lights is not very efficient.

You have some big plants if they are just going into flower. Is that after the stretch?

I've been growing for just about a year now and I am curious if the 1000 watt set up is even worth the trouble... My plants are all six feet tall, i'm just concerned about the final yield.:blsmoke:
Two 600w lamps, in the area where they overlap, deliver much higher lumens than a single 1000w, and illuminate a much broader area. I think part of your problem, if you have one, is the height of your plants. I don't see it as a positive thing that your (indoor) plants are six feet tall. Maybe that's just how it is with sativas, but I'm sure I would be training them to stay low and have a lot of nodes. OTOH I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to sativas, so maybe a 6' sativa is like a 3' indica.

Not really. Really though, just depends on your grow style. I just don't see 2x 600 out perform a 1000w after cost start up, and just more shit to go wrong. I see what you trying to say^ but like I said- cost start up, more shit to go wrong, more stuff to move, more bulbs to buy.

the 600's can't match the 1000's. If your trying to squeeze "efficiency" out of a 600, you might as well have gone with 1000's in the first place.

600`s are more efficient but I`d say the 1000`s have more penetration saying that 100w led chips seam to penetrate ok but expensive.
