you are talking apples and oranges. you dont still NEED a ballast it is a built in part of led lights.

The driver is actually a separate piece of the LED set up. Granted it comes included in the commercial LED panels, just like a ballast would come with your HID/HPS setup.

Oh ,fruits of thoughts.... It depends...... Yes ,if you judge by size ,it's apple'n'ranges... But if you go to the energy-wasted-into-heat-from-both ,aka their efficiency ...... I'd say five maybe six, AF135's... you could go smaller, but costs increase the more small panels you get....

They're 250W each, and are good for 32"x32".... put them in the same pattern as five on dice. That will set you at 1250W, and give you ample coverage.... If you're feeling really saucy you could do 6 and bump it to 1500W. You could do 16 A51-60's... It'll run you $5360, but I'm sure Jeff from A51 would cut you a deal for such a large order. The six A51-135's would be $4128, but again I'd just email Jeff and ask what he can do for you because it's such a large order.

much of the LED advertising still is very much exaggerated which is a shame, i have seen some nice LED grows here and on other forums, they still seem limited to smaller plants and sog type grows though

which panels will you buy ? so many options available and none of them cheap different grow forums seem to push different panels SG602 blackstar MAG 357 were popular a few months back
again not that many growers seem to have made the switch over because of cost i guess

i think personally i will have a go of induction lights before LED's although leds are still interesting, i just do not think they are really a match for hps yet especially when growing larger plants

its still rather small looking for my preference no offense sir but i guess it depends on your definition of a large plant !
although your plant is certainly bigger than most of the led plants i have seen and does look impressive
i guess a lot of led users tend to grow lots of very small plants to get good yields in small spaces, most led grows out there to see on forums are these types

i like to grow them large when possible to keep the numbers down although i put the large size down to genetics and NFT mostly
i am not so sure the leds would of coped so well with plants that are so wide as they are tall in my garden

this plant yielded 10 oz under a 600 hps

this plant yielded 21.5 oz (600g) under 2x600w hps this plant was bent over to 6ft tall, it was 7ft wide and 4ft deep

Its mostly about strain and training, growing style. Both you guys have differnt grow syles. I pull 1.5 -2 lbs. Under a 1000 w mainling and the same under 700 w led.

interesting , what panels do you think are the best at the moment?, they do interest me i will get round to them one day along with the induction lamps too lol
its hard for me to fix something that is not broken when it cost a fair amount of money but still each to their own, maybe i will treat myself to one as a gift

its good to see the leds improving, but still that price needs to come down for me, i do like the better safety aspect of leds over very hot hps and less heat aimed directly at the plants too
heat is never an issue for me in the uk normally, although i am thinking of doing some grows in tents soon leds could be better for tents for heat reasons

For a certain amount of energy (power x time ) provided (spent ),a certain quantity (mass ) is harvested.... So ... Mass per (power x time ) ... ------------------------------------------------------------ gr / k W h......... When I was growing with HPS (greenPower 400 Watt ) my average yield was 250 gr . The average amount of energy spent (0.4 x ( 18x7x4 +12x7x10 ) ) was 535 kWh (a bit more...).. So that is an efficiency of 250 gr / 535 kWh = 0,46 gr / kWh ....... ...Up til now (3rd week of "flowering ) and starting from 24/0 cycle =>20/4=>18/6=>13/11 => 12.45/11.15' =>and so on ...I've spend approx 60 kWh.....!!!!!And that includes 9 x120 mm 12v fans & TD silent 160 extractor fan (with gradually increasing leds from approx 48 Watt to 190 Watts ( two unknown wild landstrains ) .... Even if I'll get 80 gr final yield ...... Even if I 'll spend double this amount up till harvest.... Still it's going to be 0.66 gr / kWh....... ----------------Way ,more efficient.......--------...efficient.....-------------Energy turned into matter....... ....Anyway...Check Astir thread..... Take a peek..... 132 Watts - 2x White Russians-9th week -(for sure couple more to go....)

... Brother there, assumes that he's way over 140 grs ,already.. Dunno....Can't tell...He's awful photographer....(And my tele-photo-weighing abilities ,are not so good,either..) But...For sure his grow is way more efficient than any Hid grow..... And those are the old led panels.... Now there's a new gen ...... Comin' from far away.... (.....Even further ,than you might think from...)

If the switch was made and I bought 3 or 4 pannels with each one putting out 360 Watt. Will I need to still ventilate the heat or will they be fine if I keep the room at around 72ish during the day? I'm not worried about nights because it gets cold where I live.

Well, I mean if you are controlling the temps and keeping at a prime temp, then the ventillation would be for fresh air exchange. So if temps are regulated by other means than ventilating, you could get away without it but fresh air exchange is important.

what is the difference in price for those LED panels vs a 600W/1000W ? is there still great value in it. regards,
