There's an old saying, you get what you pay for. I believe that to be true in this case as well. I think hortilux are best for magnetic and ushio are best for digital.
new hortilux are now e-ballast compatible but I never had any problem running them in a digital before the change.

Well as you can see that is bs...I read that about some 10000k mh bulbs...as youy can see from the graphs the cmh has alot more blue and even twice as much red output as hps...is what I run and I love 'em
I've seen these charts before, and I guess it just doesn't make sense to me. If there is more of basically all wavelengths in CMH, then why are they lower in lumen output? I know, lumens are a measurement of visible light... Still, based on those charts, the CMH should put out more lumens than HPS, and they don't.

I'm running Ushio now, and I think they're great. Ushio makes quality bulbs for many industries, they're not a "grow light" manufacturer. I used to run Digilux, and was unimpressed.

if you notice there is much more yellow and green in hps and those are the wavelengths our eyes are most able to see and since lumens are based on what humans see the lumens score higher ..where cmh is higher red violet and blue is what plants use most but we see least so being further away from the center of lumen measurement scores lower in lumens... usable energy output for plants though is greater

After switching to all digital ballasts, I was blowing bulbs here and there (which never happened before). I bought most of whats available at one time or another and believe it or not, I'm using HTGSupply's Digital Plus 1000 HPS bought for $69.95. It is very hardy, I've never had one fail and they are initially rated at 150,000 lumens which is high. I only go 9 months with them, rather than 1 year but I like to run my rooms at peak conditions. They're as good as anything I've used, HPS wise anyways and cheaper.

Thanks. So, where do you get the ballasts for the 830w CMH lamps?
I also want you to know that I respect you and followed your thread on reflectors on ICmag...while I cant' seem to locate the test I performed with a nist certified 40K light meter I do know that the PL Deeps were amazingly even in disperal with only a peak of about 600 more lumens dead center...and it is obvious from the results in the plants that they are very well designed....the 830 watt CMH uses a mh 1000 watt ballast...pulse or probe start...A friend who is running one had his ballast set to hps and it worked that way for months before he realized....must be mag coil ...no digis...and he absolutely loves his and said now he will never run a hps again...hope it helps

So the 830 lamp works in a 1000w MH ballast . And your buddy digs it. Do you recall is he's running a 4x4 footprint under?

The 830w CMH is a vertical-orientation-only lamp. Ho horizontal application per Phillips, so I can't use it.

it is claimed that this luxor is best but I DO NOT KNOW...my friend who is using it has it in a parabolic

I use 3 400 cmh in a 5x5 two in PL Deep reflectors on movers overhead and 1 vertical cooltube in the middle down below the canopy

holy sheep shit....that luxor cost just as much to ship to my state as it does to purchase the hood itself.....hahahha crazy

Price: $269.08 + $262.35 shipping to Colorado.....
$531 to my door for just the hood.,.... a 4 ft parbolic cost $45 plus the socket/cord $25...$70

I found a ton of unused 400 HPS bulbs at my work today. They are mainly sylvania lumalux s51 and philips c400s51 bulbs. How well will these work? I'm using two lumatek digital ballasts with hurtilux bulbs right now. They look just like my hurtilux bulbs. I see they have 50,000 lumens but they look like they run around 10-20 bucks online. Should I grab a handful of these and use them when I switch bulbs next?
