The drums are now beating for Gun Control, without any more of a definition than just that. Bottom line for me is that we are supposed to be a nation of laws not men. So we assume laws protect us. They protect us from other law abiding citizens, not from the lawless or the criminally insane as was the case recently. Connecticut has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the United States. Those laws did nothing to protect anyone. Other human beings tried and failed. All the kings laws and all the kings men cannot keep us from destroying ourselves all over again.
We have the God given right to protect ourselves from great bodily harm and, in my opinion with weapons of great force used with reason. The Connecticut massacre appears to be the result of the killer's mother being criminally negligent by allowing access for her mentally ill son to semi-automatic weapons. That is the lynchpin of the discussion, not more gun control. Perhaps it is a crime to leave guns unlocked or outside of a safe when there is a mentally ill adult around. It is criminal when one does so and a minor has access to a firearm. The same should be true for the mentally ill. If that is the"gun control" we are talking about, I am in!
