That Gavita was what I was looking at previously. I'm wondering why the HPS was used in conjunction with plasma. Also questioning the penetration of those outboard LEDs on the Chameleon

Over on IC there are a few plasma grows happening. One major one with plasma + big red LED supplementation. Another couple are using in combo with HPS to bring up the % of red, as the plasma has a lot of blue.

but hps has low red with alot of yellow...those kessils do have decent penetration as it is a tight focused beam

get outta my head...lol...I have 2 400 cmh on movers overhead with a 400 in a cool tube lower vertical and 8 TS ho's 54 46" in each corner

So Kite, what do you think of that 02 bulb (more red) in the Gavita? Wondering if supplementation is necessary, or if a single LEP on a light mover would do it. I'll only be looking at a 4x4 footprint.

LED's are for s-u-c-k-e-r-s. I did plenty of led journal browsing long before I invested in my existing setup and I never saw anything that made me a believer. I love the idea of no heat growing but the results just aren't there.

Same here man bout four years ago i was buildin a setup from scratch and they where hyped up huge but i didnt bite... them bastereds where selling for a grand too... hahahaha not this sucker

I gather (but am still reading) that with the combo of HPS and plasma you get the spectrum and the penetration. Low cost of HPS lamp and the plasma has like 30,000 hour lifespan or some such. Have considered having the two systems on a light mover to really blend the outputs.

I just retired my Stray Light plasma. It was harming the plants. They're happy as clams under the MH. Expensive lesson; allow me to have learned it for you. cn

The stray light uses the same luxim bulb as the gavita. Thank you cn as I was thinking of trying it but the cost was prohibitive especially when only replaces a 400 watt hid. This grow room has cost too damned much already. Lol. But I must say its performance has exceeded my expectations so money well spent.

Thank you for the compliment. It was thouroughly thought out in design along with geometry and algebraic equation for light placement and size...4 plants a run...titan co2 reg/solenoid tank, minisplit ac, ro watewr, soiless, uvb supplementation at 300-400 uw/cm2, 60 pint/day dehumid, 5'x5'x9' height, completed sealed/insulated, PL Lighting deep reflectors
I LOVE CMH!! But for the first time I am running a hps in the cooltube...will know more when completed but thusfar I am not seeing anymore out of the 2 cmh/1 hps vs 3 cmh

Stray Light uses a sulfur base, and the Gavita is using Metal Halide and Argon. Different spectrums.

I think I'll be headed to the Gavity Plasma. Could up the red / drop the blue with either an HPS (heat but big spectrum) or red LEDs (cool and narrower red band)

apologies as you are mistaken ...they use the SAME luxim bulb...check it out...sulfur plasma

How many lighting fixtures in a residence do you normally see oriented horizontally? I know it's a different comparison, but the light dispersion should be more even. Look into a couple of the vertical grow journals on this site, I know more than one have an open air hood with a vertical bulb, and have produced very well. I can't call myself highly experienced, but I am always willing to read and do research.



Edit: For the LED-haters, they have a purpose and fulfill part of the need/market for some growers. The technology has improved dramatically over the last few years. The future is not written by people that aren't willing to challenge old methods.

it is not hate...there are NO leds that can even come close to hid...period...yes they are improving but are still very far off before feasible for anything but small scrogging

I believe the Stray Light uses Luxim's G2 Luxim Light Engine.

Gavita is using Luxim's LIFI STA 41-01 or 41-02

Light engine is Sulfur

LIFI STA is Metal Halide and Argon.
